Internal webcam not working ASUS UX430UA Laptop

    Hey guys,

So I'm having an issue with my internal webcam on my laptop (Asus UX430UA). Basically whenever I use the windows camera app, skype or any other video service it just shows a black screen, also a white led turns on next to the webcam when using the apps possibly indicating the webcam is on? I tried googling and looking at other forums for months now and seems like no one has a straight answer and/or fix. I tried uninstalling the webcam driver " USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam" and reinstalling and that didn't work, tried looking for an updated driver via Asus driver downloads and there isn't one listed for my model and also made sure all Windows 10 privacy settings are not blocking the webcam from working and that still didn't work. Hopefully someone has a suggestion that I haven't tried yet, here are the details of the driver; Version: 10.0.18362.693, Date: 6/21/2006.

    Thanks in advance!

You could give Snappy Driver Installer a try. But ONLY install driver for your camera (disregard everything else) and make sure you can do a System Restore Point before proceeding.

There is always the possibility that the webcam is physically disconnected or dead.

Was the camera working in the past?
Can you remember when this behavior started? Was there any change to the system at that time (Windows Update, etc.)?
Have you ever gotten video to show with any app since this started happening?

I do remember the camera working very briefly when I first got the laptop a few years ago but more often than not I remember it always having a black screen and not working. From my research basically ASUS doesn't have a webcam driver that's compatible with windows 10 and the latest driver for the webcam ASUS released for my model seems to be from 2006. I have seen posts of people googling their driver hardware id's and getting another driver that's similar but I haven't had any luck with that. Its a shame because I contacted ASUS support and they basically said we cant help you unless we charge you a $60 diagnostics fee, definitely going to remember that on my next laptop purchase.

    Have you tried this:
First, check to see if you have allowed Windows to install drivers through Windows Update:
Type: "Advanced System Settings" into Windows Search > opens System Properties window > go to the Hardware Tab > click on Device Installation Settings > see if the option to automatically download and install software for your devices is set to Yes.

Then: go to Device Manager > select the webcam > right click > properties > Update Driver > choose: Search for driver > get the "you have the best driver..." message > then click on "Search for Updated Drivers on Windows Update".
See if it finds anything new.

So I tried this before and it didn't work, so just to go through it again I clicked update and it changed to a whole new driver from my original one. But, still black screen and no picture.

Unfortunately, looking more and more like a dead camera.

It would seem like that but if you google "ASUS webcam black screen" under the Microsoft questions there are a handful of them with exactly the same issue and no resolve. If there weren't so many similar posts I would think it was a hardware issue but im thinking its some sort of driver issue I cant wrap my head around.

It could be a driver problem, of course. But somewhere you would find someone posting a driver solution. That solution may not work for you, but it would be cause for hope.
If you find the majority of people post the problem with no solution then it indicates that the driver is not the answer.
That's logic. Reality often laughs at logic.

Another option would be to install a webcam utility program, one that promises to enhance and improve the camera functions. Often these have their own drivers, and may work with the camera.

Something like this might work: (Free trial available):
Download ManyCam for Windows 10 - Free Demo

Well all of the other posts I found are usually unresolved with most people suggesting driver updates and then their forum just goes cold. My theory is that its a problem ASUS knows about either abandoning a proper windows 10 driver for the webcam and just not fixing it.

    edit: manycam doesn't work
