I have a driver usb2ser.sys that won't work with core isolation

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I'm just getting so frustrated. I've looked for help online and everywhere else... I found info saying it was a mediatek serial something or other that used this driver usb2ser.sys but I can't find anything using it in device manager to remove it even after using the command prompt command show non present devices.... can someone please help me figure how to locate this driver and get rid of it... I'd be eternally grateful as I'm a very security minded person...

    I'm using windows 10 build 19592.1001I have a driver usb2ser.sys that won't work with core isolation-coreisolationproblems.png

Maybe my post here might help.
Otherwise you might need to disable driver signature enforcement at boot and that is really more dangerous.

Try using Autoruns from Sysinternals, it should show the driver being loaded and where in the registry it is loaded from and the path to the file on your disk. You can also uncheck the driver in Autoruns to disable it, then reboot to test if anything needs it or not, if not you can then delete it.

have a similar issue. mine has usb2ser.sys as well as 2 other drivers (some wireless xbox 360 controller xusb21.sys and asus aichargerplus.sys)
of the 3, only aicharger has an entry in autoruns which i've unticked since.
    usb2ser.sys and xusb21.sys reside in system32/driverstore/
    aicharger resides in sysWOW64/drivers

reboot has been done a few times and still can't enable isolation.

so... how do i go about removing the drivers from the system without borking it? and why is core isolation blocked by unused drivers hiding in the old driver repository?

    should i bother enabling isolation?

ps.. a bit lost with cliff s' post... did it point to something at some point?

    thanks.

I can't remember where it used to link to, sorry.
But if you don't need the driver, and can't find it in Device Manager(to see if Windows has a generic version that works), you can try using Driver Explorer(RAPR) to see if it can find the driver(s) and uninstall or force uninstall: Releases . lostindark/DriverStoreExplorer . GitHub

    thanks for that..
removed the 2 things from driver store..
had to go back to autoruns to actually delete the aicharger from autorun (unticking it not enough) and the core thingy was turned on... hasn't blown up yet..
though the aicharger file is still there in \syswow64\drivers\... hmm. will leave that there...

funny thing.. it would seem enabling core integrity stops kaspersky from using its own hardware virtualization based protection.

i mean.. i haven't seen that particular warning before in kaspersky and the only 2 things that i've changed is going from 1909 to 2010 and turning on core integrity thing...

    ---
even funnier.. it kills virtualbox performance... i use a linux mint client with vbox from time to time and the cinnamon desktop keeps crashing... can't even use bookmark on firefox within the mint client XD

    ---

all the crashing apparently borked that linux mint client... found out i can't boot from it after i rebooted the win10 to turn off core integrity. eventually got it to work again... so it's going to stay off... all that hassle... for nothing XD
