Cheers, we are not actually talking about dropping it, as I explained in my last post
knock, jolt etc.
and it does not have to be, if the laptop is powered on, that severe in certain circumstances, indeed just moving it sharply, can do it.
The reason I ask is that G sensor has been tripped
S.M.A.R.T. Attribute: G-sense error rate | Knowledge Base
OK
I really need to sign off for tonight
THERE is no rush to this
So please be patient, until I return tomorrow about 1800UK time
What you REALLY do need to do now is
1. Secure your personal data, any pictures, docs and music files you need from those folders .
2. COPY only a few at a time, do NOT try and copy the whole contents of the user folder.
Copy only the files for the music, pics and docs.
3. I DO NOT advise you to use some third party backup image software such as Macrium, good as that is, it MAY in an attempt to make a full backup or image, push that drive over the edge, and you would need another drive connected to the laptop by USB to make that backup or image
4. Use your USB flash pen.
HOWEVER you will of course still need somewhere to copy these items to from the flash pen.
5. That drive CANNOT be repaired. Despite what you may read, about fixing bad sectors, they are NOT fixed. They are with the use of some cmds or 3rd party programs/apps simply dealt with by copying the data from the bad sectors and writing it to good sectors. The bad sector is then marked bad to prevent other data being written to it.
6. When you have done that and even if you have not of course completed it we will take the NEXT step.
7. HOWEVER on the evidence available to date, not only the Seagate test, but all the other evidence the ONLY solution is to replace the drive.
8. Please post the full model of the Acer laptop from the plate on the base, or underneath the battery if it is of the removable sort AND the serial number of the laptop from the same plate. so that I may advise you of the procedure to change the drive, when you get to that stage.
GOODNIGHT. I will wait 15 minutes for your reply and then see you back about 1800hrs tomorrow
I have already dragged important docs, pics, videos onto the thumb drive I've mentioned before. I never gave a thought to downloading anything.
Aspire 3

Thank you again, and have a good night.
Cheers
We are going to do a couple of more tests when I resume
We will then depending on the results proceed to a possible temporary solution until you replace the drive.
Thanks for you expressed appreciation , it has been my pleasure to help you and as I said, we will continue.Thank you again, and have a good night
See you about 1800 to 1900 hrs..
What you sent me is the model number
Model Name: A315-21-95KF

AGAIN may I point out there is NO RUSH and I really do advise you to read the guide carefully
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
One important point is - from the guide
Here is how for you on that AcerBefore you get started doing a repair install of Windows 10, be sure that you also temporarily disable Secure Boot in your UEFI firmware settings. Once installation has finished, you can enable Secure Boot again if you like.
Completely shut down your computer.
Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.
Use the right arrow key to select Boot.
Press the down arrow key to select Secure Boot and press Enter.
With the arrow key, highlight Disabled and press Enter.
Press the F10 key and select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.
That is from the link to the guide for repair install of 10 - from this site - prepared by Brink, admin of the site
where you can if you click the link on the guide then see the guide for your Acer.
IT may be best if you go through this post and the guide link to the repair install, and download the ISO,
and then POST back on here, BEFORE you proceed beyond that step.
By that I mean do not proceed to MOUNTING the ISO and clicking setup.
IMPORTANT
NO one can guarantee you this is going to work, no one can assure you that you will not encounter problems
You have your data, you say so even if it does not work it is not complete disaster.
If you have anything stored on the computer by way of passwords for any site , etc, email or whatever that you DO NOT KNOW, in other words you have had the computer browser save them then you should ensure before you start that you have these passwords.
THIS usually works without problems. HOWEVER it depends on the state of that drive.
As you know it failed the test on Seagate, but I have known drives fail that when there have been only a very few bad sectors.
Hope fully if the problems are not bad this will get you back working on 10 and then you can see how matters progress over a couple of days and if problems return you should order a new drive ASAP.
I will guide you on that as necessary.
