    I screwed up the first time, using Run, instead of Command Prompt (Admin) which I just completed. 100% complete. "Repairs made to corrupt files". I restarted.

    I screwed up the first time, using Run, instead of Command Prompt (Admin)
    That as I said was what I thought when you said the window just flashed and closed
    I suspect you are typing sfc /scannow in the RUN box and not as per my guide.

    I have signed off for this session. I am in the UK I will be back, if no one else takes the topic to continue with you, about 1800hrs UK time

    In the search bar on the taskbar
    type
    This PC
    when it shows above
    click it
    On the window that opens hold the mouse cursor on C drive it will show Total size and free space
    OR right click C drive and click Properties
    On that window on the general tab, what is capacity shown as and what is FREE space shown as please.

    I have read all I need to read at this stage

    Eight or so reports, please see your logs on your last post - system errors
    You said on your opening post that you had run scandisk - no errors

    What you need to do now is to follow this
    Drive Error Checking in Windows 10

    following option 2
    then repair drive in option 2 and then show details in event log.
    I suspect you will find bad sectors recorded.

    Please post results.

    IF there are bad sectors YOU need ASAP to get your personal data off that drive copied to somewhere.
    I know you say you do not have another reliable computer, but you need to make arrangements to copy it to somewhere, presuming this computer has ONLY the one drive. I am sure it will have as it is a laptop.

    Please do not think this drive, if it has bad blocks can be repaired. That is a common fallacy, it cannot.
    The bad blocks can be marked bad so that data is not written to them, but more bad blocks will most certainly develop and if you get a bad block in a part of the drive called the Master File Table - you will not be able to access the drive in the normal way.

    I did as you said.. It finished with "No errors found" but on the very top it said it had trouble scanning, so I hit "Check Details" (just as displayed on #6)...

    I remain convinced that there is a problem with the drive
    Go to Control Panel please
    click device manager
    expand the entry disk drives
    Without a USB connected there is likely to be only one entry
    Please post exactly what it says.
