READ PLEASE the following sections
A. Prepare the System B. Select the Drives to Test C. Select the Tests to Run D. Aborting the Diagnostics E. Viewing the Logs
You really do need to read the guide in the sections outlined above, there is NO rush to this job.
YOU MUST ensure that you close all other apps when you run the tool and you must ensure you click only the
LONG GENERIC TEST
The long tests will take time to complete. Because the long tests read every sector on the drive, the amount of time required will depend on the speed and capacity of the disk drive. The highest capacity drives often take 2 to 4 hours to complete. You can abort the test at any time without harming the drive, although the drive will not be fully tested if the test is aborted.
Also download the software for the Seagate tool
from here
SeaTools | Seagate Support US
Seagate tools for windows
The test will fail and end if a bad sector is detected on an internal drive.
Also as I said read carefully the guide on the sections highlighted
Many of the tests and the repair functions are ONLY available on Seagate drives.
IF IT passes you do not need to post results just report that
If it finds bad sectors eg fails post the log as in the guide.

Just wanted to check before I sign off for the night if you are OK with this
I do not mean is it actually running, just if you have read the guide basics and are OK with that
It failed.
Give me a clue please
IF IT passes you do not need to post results just report that
If it finds bad sectors eg fails post the log as in the guide.

Back on post 32 I asked
You actually never answered that question, please do NOT think, that I am being picky, but that question has now become very important8. Has this laptop had some manner of serious knock or similar - fall, jolt, etc.
Your drive the Toshiba is a spinning hard drive. In other words is has a spinning disc called the platters and a read/write head. Such drives are very susceptible to jolts, even indeed in certain circumstances the slightest of jolts, to that laptop whilst it is powered on. The gap between the read write head and the platters, is minute, and the smallest of jolts, can result in the problems, you appear to have.
There appears to be evidence that this has indeed occurred and that is why the drive has failed the test, after such a short life span.
