USB Drive not detected by Windows 10

ACER laptop
Windows 10 Version 1903

I recently bought a USB thumb drive. Plugged it into one of the USB ports on my laptop and.....nothing. Doesn't show up in File Explorer, Windows doesn't even seem to detect that it's connected. I've tried all 3 USB ports. USB ports are detecting all other devices I've been using recently, so doesn't seem like a driver issue. Opened Disk Management and it doesn't show up there either. I got the drive pretty cheap - it's a PNY brand which might be unreliable. Still, it should at least be detected by Windows right? I don't get what the problem is, unless I'm missing something obvious (there don't appear to be any physical switches on the USB drive). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In this case I would return it to the vendor and take my money back. ( Compare it to the prices with reputed vendors. If you got it cheap, it could be a fake. Buy only from reputed vendors.)

Test in another device ... but I've a feeling it's going to have to be returned.

Gave up using thumb drives years ago, totally unreliable and unstable. If they don't fail when you first plug them in, they're sure to fail when they're full of data.

(Came across a user the other day who had the whole family's collection of years and years of images "backed up" on multiple thumb drives. Needless to say they're now on a USB HDD, and in the cloud for multiple device access).
