    HP Scanner Sucks. HP 400 / 425dn.

I have a MfP / HP 400 / 425dn. It has been a GREAT pc of hardware only requiring cleaning and one piece had to be repaired. Can't remember what it was.

It was used with w7 as a scanner at time and it worked fine. Now with W10 it sucks. In order to get even a decent scan you have to CRANK every possible setting and even then it's not very good.
I have used the HP Scan utility, Windows scan utility and Adobe Acrobat. They are not good enough for business use.
Once again, I used to use it with W7 at default settings and quality was never even a thought.

Completely up to date, cleaning it does not help.

    thoughts?

Did you look at HP and find out if they have a new driver for your scanner?

Hi, You can try and download Vue Scan from VueScan Scanner Software for macOS Catalina, Windows 10, and Linux they have an evaluation copy that you can try for 30 days. it could solve your problem.

If HP support does not provide any guidance, you could try the HP user forums. Have a look around for somebody else who has set it up for Windows 10 and/or post a thread of your own.

Assuming that the software & driver package you installed was a Win7 one, did you install it using the compatibility mode for Win7?
[right-click on the exe, Properties, Compatibility tab, Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7]

HP software & driver packages normally include a fault-fixing utility called PSDR [and it can be downloaded on its own from Print & scan doctor]. This has helped me resolve problems more than once.

the official HP peopel were no help. I didn't get into the community posts too deeply.

I tried Vuescan and it seems to work OK but I have hard time paying $80 for something that USED to just work fine with HP software.

    Still figuring it out.

I guess they raised the price on it, I only paid 39.95 but that was a while ago.
For $80 you could almost buy a new scanner / printer that is made for win 10

I tried the HP Scan and Capture app and it seems to work pretty well. Guess I should have looked for a newer app :-0
