Brother DCP-9015CDW printer not recognised win 10

Recently re-installed Win 10 after upgrading my boot drive to a 2GB Sata to replace the previous smaller drive. Just can't get this printer to work. Latest drivers are installed from the Brother site.

Only error message I get when trying to do a test print is..... Printer Offline. I've uninstalled / re-installed several times. It was working fine previously but I do remember having similar issues to this to get it working the first time I installed Win 10 a couple of years back.

In terms of hardware, Asus 170E motherboard, just an Intel core i3 24GB ram. Can't remember how I originally fixed the issue, possibly connecting it via Wifi but that would be guessing.

I would power off printer. Then disconnect USB cable.

Uninstall printer from Windows 10 and all software associated with printer, scanning, any photo printing etc.

Restart computer, not power down, restart please.

Start installation process. Do not connect printer. Continue with installation up to the point where it says something like can't find printer and how would you like to connect. Not sure what comes first. If asked how say USB. Then when it says can't find printer power on printer and then connect USB cable.

Continue with installation. Hopefully test page will print.

If not, once finished see what printers have been installed in Settings > Devices > Printers

Not sure why but I've seen where two devices get installed, one is dead and the other is functional. Set it as default.

I agree with @Caledon Ken.

Revo Uninstaller [FREE] is excellent for this type of task. It has an option to scan for leftover items after the initial uninstall using an Advanced Scan option. You then just then tick everything and delete it.

Revo Uninstaller [FREE] => Revo Uninstaller.

Folks,

Thanks for your assistance. Previously I hadn't powered the printer off before the clean re-install so did that this time. went through perfectly, picked up the printer as soon as I switched it on and it went through the self tests etc. No issues at all. Until I went to try a test print - boom just comes back Error and doesn't print.

Will try the Revo uninstaller tool now to see if that finds anything.

Just remove everything it finds, then Reboot, and re-install the Printer.

Unfortunately that's not worked.... from memory when I had issues previously I went onto the Brother forums and the advice I got was to connect via Wifi which was a bit strange as my PC isn't wirelessly connected. Might try that for my laptop and see how that goes instead. Need to scan some expenses receipts so I'm going to have to connect my older Epson inkjet printer for the time being.

Printers eh..... either they install perfectly ok first time out of the box, or they don't !!!

If you connect your printer through wifi it connects to router. Your desktop connects to router, sounds like it is wired, and from there information is sent wirelessly to to printer.

I know I didn't ask but have you tried another USB cable in another port, preferably a USB 2 port.
