    Hi Sygnus 21

Yes it was the gigabyte technician that referred to DCH drivers, before that I had never heard of them.
Anyway his advice seems sound, in that, the latest versions of windows 10 wont work on my motherboard because of what he said. {see Above]
As i said these issues all result in 'event viewer' returning error 41 [power kernel]. Why cant windows then point specifically to the problem, be it a driver issue or what?
Does 'error 41' imply driver issue?
    Thanks

You say you are using 1804. To my knowledge it is 1803. I could be wrong, won't be first time.

Right click start, click Run, type winver, enter.

If you are using 1803 you are out of support and will not be receiving maintenance. This is not a desirable position.

The error 41 is because you are pulling the rug out from under windows with the hard power downs. Of course this is the only way to get your machine back so it is necessary.

The machine not waking properly is a driver issue. I've seen this before on HP SFF boxes. The integrated video has a driver but it just can't wake monitor.

Yours is likely different as you said you have Nvidia.

There are different wakes as well. Waking from sleep or waking from hibernation. Plenty of devices have glitches from hibernation.

Any chance you have a spare disk that you could load Won 10 clean on?

What the technician actually said was.... "GA-970A-DS3P doesn't have Windows® 10 DCH Drivers; Therefore it doesn't support the latest Windows® 10 versions.'" From post #9

That's totally different from the motherboard not supporting the latest version of Windows. What the tech stated was there are no "DCH" drivers for the board. However, Windows (and the board) does NOT require DCH drivers to operate. Please revisit post #10 on DCH drivers.

None of my Gigabyte boards use DCH drivers and they ran (run) the latest version of Windows 10 just fine. You can see my system specs and note the both builds are running on Gigabyte boards. I also have a Gigabyte G1 Sniper 5 (i7-4790K processor) from the same time frame (2013) as your GA-970A-UD3P board and it ran Windows 10 x64 1903 until I took in down.

With that, what version of Windows are you running because the latest version is 1909, not 1804. And as stated by Caledon Ken, it's 1803. There was no 1804. Also 1803 is an expired OS having reached EOL (End Of Life) In 12 November 2019. If you've got the Education version of Windows 1803 EOL in Nov 2020.

All that said, can you post an image of your Device Manager?

Why Windows can't make things simple in finding an issue is a question many have with no simple answer. Anyway you might check out this article with video on a "potential" fix for error 41.... How To Fix Kernel-Power Critical Error (Event ID 41)

I can't say if that fix will work and honestly you might try moving to the latest Windows 10 OS.

    Good luck.

Exactly my point, why do you say upgrade to latest version when the technician says it is not supported??

This post is after all about my board not your newer boards. and why it isn't recovering from sleep with version 1903 or 1909. Just as the Technician says it wouldn't.
    But why is that???
Sygnus21 are you saying that the technician is correct, or....... are you saying that its some other issue, and that my board should run the latest Win10, I'm confused.

It is my belief your MB supports V1903 / 1909. Maybe not with hibernation.

I have three old laptops ( 13 years old) and one is running the last Fast ring on Insiders, the other two are running 1909. They all sleep, one doesn't hibernate.

Now the question becomes what isn't working right when 1903 / 1909 is installed. The stance by MS to update drivers with each feature update is very frustrating. I'm hoping this practice comes to an end shortly.

Would be very interested in results of clean install and solving this mystery.

Why do you think that one doesn't hibernate??? because I feel that this is the crux of my problem.!!
do you think its the limits of your hardware?

    Btw
tried a clean install of 1909 and although windows all works beautifully, when coming out of sleep, the system basically restarts. i have tried with hibernate disabled/enabled etc , no difference. also tried changing up the bios settings from ahci to ide, again no change.
oh well I guess the gigabyte technician is right, and I should stick to 1803.

    thanks Ken for your help!

Did you try disabling with power command.

    Command prompt(admin) or Powershell (admin)

    powercfg -h off

This also kills Windows Fast Startup.
