USB flash drive(s) not showing in File Explorer

I believe this started with the 720 (1909 18363.720) Windows Update but I'm not sure. I'm going to try backing out the latest WU in a bit but wanted to post the problem here before doing so.

File Explorer is not seeing any USB Flash drive or mounted ISO, but I can look at them if I enter the drive letter directly in File explore:

File Explorer doesn't see it.

I believe one of these two updates caused this:



Will back them out one at a time starting with the newer one and see what happens.

Looks like it was a couple of my flash drives, but that doesn't explain why I had the same problem when I mounted a Win 10 ISO. I ended up doing a repair install and that didn't really make any difference so I tried several different flash drives and they showed up correctly in File Explorer.
I'm going to play with this some more but for now it looks like specific flash drive unless I can find specific ISO files that exhibit the same problem (again).

Solved for now.

Problem is still there when I mount a Windows 10 ISO.





I did a Repair Install but it made no difference.

Ran DISM and SFC, no problems, no fixes.

I'll try a new and different account, see what that does.

Edit: New account made no difference. Booting to Safe mode made no difference.

Always has for me. It also has Eject on the right-click context menu.

Just tried Windows repair All-In-One, no help. Still the same. This is annoying but not enough to do a Clean Install for yet.

Any other ideas gratefully accepted.

Windows 10 Pro, 1909 build 18363.720, not seeing this issue myself, however I had a problem with a flash drive showing files I had deleted as if they were still on the drive, went into Device Manager, show hidden devices and uninstalled all greyed out drives under disk drives and storage volumes which has done the trick for that issue.

Do you perhaps have some old drive mappings / drive letter assignments interfering with showing these drives?

The relevant Registry key is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
and you should be able to go to, for example, its
\DosDevices\I:
entry and just delete it.
[Personally, I'd at least Export the Key in .reg format before starting]

I deleted \DosDevices\I: and several others. Restarted, no help. Still same problem.

Now when I mount the ISO it gets the N: drive but still doesn't show in This PC, same as I: did previously.

Check the group policy editor, see if for whatever reason USB and ISO have been hidden or set to not show. Don't see why that should have happened but worth checking.
