    how to fix bad sectors and write protected in the same USB


    I have a 256GB USB, free space 117GB, it is SanDisk USB. I cannot copy or format it because of write protected. I have used all methods: using Regedit.exe, EaseUS Tools M, Diskpart Command, then I used AOMEI Partition Assistant to format it, but only 48% it stopped because of bad sectors.

    I had the same problem with Kingston USB before, but it is only 57GB, with this one I cannot just throw it away.
    Please help me fix it. Thank you. I am using Windows 10 version 1909

    Going 'write protected' can be the first sign of a failing usb stick. It gives you a chance to copy the files from it, while protecting it from further corruption that may be caused by writing to it. The bad blocks suggest this usb is dying and beyond repair, I'm afraid

    Thank you for your answer. How can I keep all my drives save, I don't want this problem repeat again.

    I can't say I've ever had a usb die on me. The problem is more common with cheap usb sticks bought online, these may turn out be counterfeits. I only buy from reputable sources, or direct from the manufacturer.

    I bought them from stores, maybe I should buy from the manufacture. Thank you for your time.

    That should be a reputable source. If they're not that old, take them back and see if they'll replace them.

    Depending on your region and the type of usb, the minimum SanDisk warranty is 2 years, some are 5 years and a few are 'lifetime'.

    As I said, none of mine have failed. I've used SanDisk, Lexar and Toshiba up to 32GB. Others may have reliability experience to offer....

    i have had several fail over the years, Usually this happen when they first come out like the fist 32 GB then 65 GB finally 128 GB and now 256GB and I've seen up to 2 TB advertised lots of counterfeit and just plain didn't work well last long. Now then when SanDisk came out with them they did work and I haven't had a sandisk fail. I have had a 128 GB Sandisk fail to complete a large data transfer(100GB) I guess it overheated and Corrupted data and locked up. That was the last USB Thumb Drive i have tried to use for large data transfers. so I can't speak to what is available currently. I Do NOT USE Thumb Drives for BackUP. I use External Hard Drives which will give warning before failure and I have multiple Hard Drives so If I lose one I'm still back up on another one. To many things can happen to Thumb Drives getting lost is a good one going through the wash most will survive this a few times getting stepped on dogs think there something to destroy. If you going to use Thumb Drives don't count on just one alternate with at least two and buy brand Name Thumb Drives A quick Google on this show Sandisk and Samsung to be the best Currently although that little buton Sandisk 128GB is the one that failed for me for large file transfer!! Its was good for 5 to 10 GB transfers dam easy to lose, Mine is currently lost

    I've seen so many fake USB flash drives. I have 9 USB flash drives, from 128M to 32G.
    I bought a Kingston "64G" that shows in Explorer as a 64G but is in fact a 4G. (I bought on the street)
    I had a Kingston 16G that was damaged from the day I bought. Kingston replaced it under warranty.
    My suggestion is to test any new USB flash drives with h2testw as soon you get at home.
