Windows keeps Re-Assigning Drive letter to Recovery Partition

    Hello,

I restored my Macrium Reflect system image, carefully only giving a drive letter to Drive C and not the other system partitions. Running Windows 10 1909 on GPT.
Ever since the restore Windows 10 keeps assigning drive letter E to the recovery 500 mb partition, making it appear and be writable, which is a risk of users accidentally tampering with it and is generally undesirable for it to take up a frequently used drive letter.

I already removed the drive letter with diskpart, but to no avail, a reboot brings it back. Also a chkdsk didn't help, there is no corruption.

    What do I do?

Press the Windows key+X and choose Disk Management, here right click the Recovery Partition and choose Change Drive Letter or Paths, choose Remove. If that doesn't work use a 3rd party app like Minitool Partition Wizard.

    Hi, thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately this does not work, as that option is not available in Disk Management. The utility correctly recognizes this as a system partition and as such, does not allow me to change drive letters. "Help" is the only option in the right-click menu.

This is exactly why I have used the diskpart method where I could remove the driver letter but that doesn't last either.

My problem is not that I cannot remove the letter but rather that it gets reassigned after I reboot the computer.

Like if I plugged in a new drive... I believe the third party minitool also only removes the letter right? Because then it wont be enough

You can choose a drive letter of None in Minitool.

You have to set the ID using Diskpart for the Recovery Partition...

Thank you! What ID would I need to set specifically?

Use Diskpart to Find & Select your Recovery Partition
    then type
    Code:
    set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"
    gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
