Thank You ALL: I guess that the person who wrote the software meant was that IF the manager does come up just tell it NO when it asks if I want ti init the drive!

I read the write-up on it at the site.

Dvr Backup And Restore Software for Windows (DvrBARS) | TiVoCommunity Forum

My take is when he says "initialize", he's speaking of Disk Management scanning the system for all possible attached drives, like it is supposed to. Apparently, that can roach something. I've never heard of that happening under normal circumstances.

OP, please do not take this the wrong way. The software is 3 1/2 years old as of last update. It's supplied "as is". Even states "your responsibility". The way the author words his documentation is, IMO, a little lackadaisical.

". Read step 2 again. DvrBARS only scans the drives once when it first starts up. If you add, remove or change your drive configuration while it's running you will confuse the poor thing. I also strongly recommend that you do not run Windows Disk Manager while a TiVo drive is connected, because it will try to "initialize" it, which will damage the boot sector."

I would be cautious with this.

Yes, it is because the TIVO Disk is NOT a Windows File System. The reason the Software is older is that it still works fine. P.S. I AM in touch with the author so all is OK now.

If you're working directly with the author for now, go ahead and mark this thread SOLVED, to avoid further posts. You can always un-mark it later if needed.
