WD disk errors, boot issues and possible bad blocks

My hard drive appears to be having a few issues recently. Mainly, my laptop doesn't boot from sleep cleanly - it starts up with no screen visibility and auto restart mid-boot. It eventually starts but only after going through self-diagnostics and my manually selecting 'Cancel & Boot Windows 10 normally' (or words to that effect).

Also, I've checked the Event Viewer and found entries almost daily saying 'Event ID 7 : The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block.'

Ive run a Western Digital Data Lifeguard full test (1.5 hrs) and it returned errors which it cannot fix (FAIL).
I've also run the Win 10 CHKDSK program but it found no errors.

Ive now resorted to disabling Sleep Mode completely and shutting the system down whenever Im finished using it, but would really like to fix these issues if possible.

Can anyone please offer any advice.

Once bad blocks are written check disk wont find any errors as the block are written out. ON no account clone the drive as bad blocks will be written to the new drive and data may be corrupted anyway

There are two kinds of disk faults: Logical and hardware.
Logical can be fixed with chkdsk c: /f
Hardware cant be fixed. Bad blocks are disk surface damage. The drive is dying.
As already suggested, back up data NOW and replace the drive.
Buy a SSD. It cost now almost the same price of a first line HDD and is 5 times faster.
I have used the BX500 in 6 computers. So far so good

Backup any important files > replace the drive

If Macrium can make a backup image then that may simplify drive replacement by restoring the image.

Sometimes Macrium may fin problems with drives and cannot make a backup image.
If this happens then use copy and paste of the individual users folders to another disk drive or the cloud.

Once files are backed up you can use software to find replacement options.
Also you can run confirmatory drive tests.

If it has bad blocks MR will write bad blocks to the new drive unless you take special steps once written to a new drive it cant be undone. If it has bad block any system files could be corupt so no point in doing an backup of anything but data

Agree.
Backup your data and do a clean install on the new drive.
Cloning a bad drive can make Windows and programs to freeze.

There are two kinds of disk cloning.
- Normal. It reads and copies the data, so bad clusters marked as bad by chkdsk and empty clusters won't be transferred. The result is a un fragmented drive.
- Sector by sector clone. It doesn't read the data, it reads the bits in the sector and copy exactly the same to the new drive. Takes much longer (it copies even empty clusters) and the clone will be exactly the same as the source.

For backup imaging is preferred as compared to cloning.
If there were a clone then after restoration run chkdsk /b.

Macrium has an option to skip bad sectors to complete the imaging.
Important files could be within the bad sectors.
This would allow making a backup image of the important files not impacted by the bad sectors.
