An image can also be done as copy data or copy sector by sector.
Sector by sector is normally done on a very bad disk so you can work on the cloned drive to try to retrieve data from it.

Makes no sense cloning as many files may be corrupted so a whole host of problems and have to do a clean install in the end

OP should backup his data and do a clean install on the new disk
