New Build: Hard Drives from old computer aren't recognized

    Hi all,

I just finished a new build and when i tried to move 2 data drives over to the build, my computer doesn't see them. One is a WE Black 2 TB and the other is an older Seagate Barracuda 500 gb. Both worked in the other computer, which I'm still using as an office machine. I have a Samsung M.2 installed and it's taking up SATA #2 slot.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the slot the m.2 drive is in isn't disabling the SATA ports those HDD drives are in?

Your owner's manual should have a matrix like that above showing which SATA or PCIE ports are affected by placement of m.2 drive.

    Cable issue. Got it.

Out of curiosity, which m.2 port are you using - the top (M2_1) or bottom (M2_2)? If I read your manual correctly, it looks like you lose no SATA ports using the bottom M.2 slot. None of my three Gigabyte boards featuring native NVMe m.2 ports have m.2 drives in their top (first) m.2 port as doing so on either my Z170, Z270, or Z390 board will cost SATA ports. Looks like your board works the same.

    Just FYI.

I’m using the top one, near the CPU. This is the one ASUS says to use. I originally had it in the bottom one but it wouldn’t boot And in the manual, under M.2 installation, it says SATA port number two is disabled when M.2 is being used in SATA mode.

Thanks. And again, glad to see you solved your issue.

    Peace
