    DVD Problems - what cause?

I've got this dvd drive on one of our computers and it'll play disks happily and then one swapping to another it'll refuse to recognise there's a disk in the drive and ask us to put one in.

But no matter what we put in it won't work.

Reboot the computer and start again and it's alright.

Strange behaviour. Anyone ever heard of anything like that?

If you are playing a Music CD or Movie DVD, try closing the player before ejecting. the disc.
you can also go to This PC and right click the optical drive and choose Eject, instead of using the eject button on the front.

You could try uninstalling the driver in Device manager then let Windows reinstall it.

How old is the DVD? I recently had to stop using an DVD drive since it was either bust or not recognised by the latest version of Windows.

Usual causes are dirty optics in the drive, or the Optical disc drive service stopped.
Quite likely the latter as the service should start on booting.
You can go to the Task Manager and Services Tab and Restart it.
