Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (Version 1903) Printer advice

    Hi,

I have tried connecting a HP 2620 Printer to the Windows 10 Lenovo laptop that I bought recently.

No success and no success with a later HP series printer or a Canon TS3150.

With none of the printers was I able to successfully download the software and drivers and run them to finish the installation.

Connecting via USB would be OK for my purposes as I don't use a printer too often but even this was not possible when trying to setup all these printers as installation failed.

What printer(s) do people have with the above Windows 10 spec?

If I know what other people have - I may be able to solve this.

    Thanks.

Can I ask how you were doing the installation.

I would go into apps and uninstall anything HP related to this printer.

If you are install as USB printer disconnect printer.

Down load the full driver package from HP. Run the install. When the install says it can't find printer connect USB cable with printer power on.

If this fails could you provide error message. Might give a member a clue as to what is going wrong.

HP also has an App for your printer.

Thanks for your response. I have had access to that app from the beginning.

I downloaded the driver you mentioned above (which I am sure I have tried before).

Once again, after downloading the driver and running it - a window shows up at the very end of the process saying "Install Failed" and directs me to a troubleshooting option.

Troubleshoot doesn't offer any solutions to the issue. No specific error code etc given.

I was unable to use the USB option as the driver did not install.

I wonder if this is because app is installed. As I said I would remove all software related to HP.

    If you run

    SFC /scannow

is Windows reporting clean. Two printers from two different companies and both fail. That is unusual.

Have you got all the maintenance for 1903 installed. Are you using any privacy tools or third party AV's.

Run the installer for the HP 2620 and when you asked to choose between Automatic and Manual installation, select Manual, check the USB box and click "Next". Then make sure the printer is plugged in and connect it to the computer.

    Thanks for the recent replies.

Here is where I am now.

    HP OfficeJet 5230 printer.

Successfully aligned the cartridges and it connected to my 5G network without any problems.

Tried to install the software and drivers - both versions - recommended and basic.

Basic - failed. No error message or troubleshooter solutions given.

Recommended - Error message below was given. Troubleshooter solutions given but none of them worked.

"Call to Driver Package Install returned error 1627 for package C:\ProgramFiles\HP\HPOfficeJet5200series\DriverStore\YetiV4\hpygid24_v4.inf"

This printer was the easiest to setup due to the screen on the front of the printer itself and seems to be an all-round better printer than the others I tried, so it seems a shame not to be able to use it.

I changed all my Firewall settings and AV Firewall to allow all software and apps to function.

I uninstalled the HP app and started from the beginning before installing the 5230 printer again.

I did not install Windows 10 originally on the laptop - I bought the laptop new on ebay and asked for Windows 10 - 2TB Hard drive and 16GB ram. That's exactly what I got and I don't have any other issues with the laptop.

Any ideas regarding the error message?

My only other thought is to take the laptop into a local computer shop that have been helpful in the past with other computers I used to own and ask them to either diagnose the issue or to look at how Windows 10 was put on the laptop - was it done correctly? etc.

Or change it for Windows 8 or similar and try again...thanks again for all the help. Just a bit frustrated that it hasn't worked - plus I am competent on a computer but not technical wise or an expert.

Have you tried an Inplace Reapir Install.

    If not I would.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

It is a no destructive install but I always recommend people back up their data.

Run the installer and when you get to the page that offers manual or automatic setup, select "Manual", click "Next", select "USB", click "Next", then make sure the printer is plugged in and connect it to the computer.

Uninstall anything related to the printers. Also go to Device Manager and delete the printers and relevant print queues. Disconnect the printers and restart. Run the setup with right-click Run As Administrator and wait until it prompts to connect the printer. Do not connect the printer before telling you to do so.
