CPU compatibility

Hi

my Pc, which I built in 2013 has a AMD A10-6800K 4.1GHz Quad Core CPU with a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H fm2+ Motherboard.

when ever I run anything intensive, the CPU sits near the 100% mark. I looked on Gb website to see what sort of UG patch existed for the CPU...it lists an A10 8750, which apparently would give little or no improvement. But the A10 6800 is only listed under the FM2 Mobo NOT the FM2 + mono, does this ,Evan I have the wrong CPU installed ?....or am I reading this wrong ?

lastly, can I safely assume that there is not much room for UG for this Mobo, I have 8 GB ram so could go to 16GB & a GeForce GTX 650Ti Boost Superclocked Nvidia graphic card.....

The motherboard supports both FM2 and FM2+ CPUs, so you're OK with the A10-6800K.

The A10-8750 looks like it has similar performance to the 6800K. The 8750 has a TDP of 65W rather than 95.

I'm not sure that much of an upgrade is possible. Adding RAM would be useful if the PC was resorting to virtual memory (swapping things in and out of the HD), but I presume you'd know if this was happening. Upgrading the GPU could be useful if the software was using the GPU for calculation. Otherwise, not so much.

If you could afford a broader upgrade - like a Ryzen 5 3600, anew MB, and DDR4 RAM, that might advance your cause. If that was all that you upgraded, looks like about £300 (incl. VAT) at Newegg in the UK. Not chump change, I know.

you say it’s obvious if the swap file space is being used excessively, wondered how ?

Hard drive activity light, for one.

You could also bring up a Task Manager window (ctrl - alt- del) and monitor HD usage.

Task Manager is good enough, use your computer as you normally would for maybe half an hour after boot up, then leave everything open/ running and open Task Manager....if it shows nearly all physical RAM is used up and the disk graph shows a lot of almost constant reads and writes that is your page file being utilised.
