BatteryReport: 25k charging cycles in 9 months !

My daughter run the batteryreport on her graphic tablet (windows 10). The result: 25k cycles, 50% remaining capacity - after 9 months. Now the battery has swollen. How is this possible ? This would make at least 4 cycles/h (if running 24h/day). What could be the source of the problem? The first battery had 55k cycles in less than 18 months and the battery replacement was made by the customer support of the tablet manufacturer.

If the battery has swollen then it has suffered heat damage and is probably in a dangerous condition. You should not use it any more.

By the way, I have never found out what that Cycle count entry really means. The entry is empty on my laptops and 25,000 on my tablet [upon receipt & ever since].

Try3, thank you for your reply. In march 2019 the new battery had 1750 cycles. And it started to swell in january when there is little sunshine and it should not have been exposed to the sun. At the battery end-of-life could charging/discharging cause internal heat to cause the swelling?

It's battery usage that causes heat - the weather would not affect it much if at all. The battery should always be capable of dealing with at least the heat that its designers anticipate. The swelling you reported indicates that there has been excessive heat that the battery casing and/or internal components could not deal with.

In light of the 2 replies below I should add that, unless you have been baking your tablet in boiling chocolate or drowning it in melted snow, the cause of the problem is a manufacturing defect that leads to excessive heat build-up [whether it is excessive current causing excessive heat or a misbehaving casing/component causing excessive heat]. To resolve the situation, you will need to hold the supplier / maker to account.

The main problem can be a sub dimension battery, that charges with over current and drains at over current.
Does the graphic tablet has a 75% max charging set to expand battery life?

The swelling can often be just a manufacturing defect. My HP ultrabook had a battery in which all 6 cells were swollen. It sits on a desk in a room with a constant 72 degrees F and is NEVER exposed to any heat. HP replaced it for free even though it was WAY out of warranty. Laptop is never stressed and barely even gets warm.

    Dear joeandmarg0
My daughter did run the batteryreport. Screenshots: Batterie - Google Drive
As mentioned, the battery pack was replaced in march 2019. In the beginning it had 50 Wh capacity, specially in dec the full charge capacity dramatically dropped to 25 Wh. At the beginning it took 1h to charge from 20 to 80% and there were 4h autonomy from 80 to 20%.

Thank you for this information. I will forward it to the customer service (not copy/paste - I hope you do not object to this).

    Good luck.

Personally, I think your best bet is to simply tell them that the battery is swollen and that damaged batteries are a fire risk. Then use what you 've learnt here to appraise their response.

Do let us know the result and which company it is - it is often difficult to get decent reports of user experiences with tablet-makers {mine is very poor - Chuwi}.

Check the charger and do not use it until you do so.Remember the exploding battery saga of Samsung in 2018.
