    Optical Drive Issue

    Optical Drive Issue –

When I go to my Documents folder and want to send a Word file to a DVD disc, I click on “Send to.” The pop-up menu does not include the option to send the file to the DVD disc. The wording is missing. The DVD disc does work on its own. I use Windows 10.

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks,

    Jerry

    Hi Jerry8A, Welcome to 10F!

    Here's how I did mine:
Go to: Option One: To Add or Remove Items in Send To context menu for Your Account (current user) Do step 1 and 2 then go to step 4 and click on the create a shortcut of the location (ex: folder, drive, network location, etc...)

When that page opens scroll down a short bit and click on Option Six: To Create Shortcut to App, File, Folder, or Drive using "Send to" Context Menu
When I right clicked on my OpDrive I saw this:
    Optical Drive Issue-10f.png
    Click on Yes.

Now, go back to your shell:sendto window and for this next step you might have to minimize it to see the newly created OpDrive shortcut on the Dsktp, usually the shortcuts go to the top left corner of the Dsktp.
Grab the shortcut and drag it to the Send to part of the File Explorer address C:\Users\your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo and release your grab, in a second or so you'll see it appear with the rest of your Send to items.

To test, do what you were trying earlier, rt. clk on your word file, open the send to part of your context menu and click on the OpDrive listed and it should be good to go.
If you see a dialog box open it's probably advising you to place a disk in the drive before it can finish the task, if that happens insert a dsk and see if the burn goes on to finish, if it doesn't you'll have to clk on Cancel and try again by rt. clking on the word file.

If it still won't do the burn try resetting the OpDrive by opening the drive then close with the dsk in, and re-run the rt clk-send to steps with the file.

Kudos to @Brink for the tutorials.

    Hello Anak –

Appreciate your detailed return. Your added steps really helped.

Assuming I did the steps correctly, this is where I am now.

Screenshot 12 shows my CD Disc shortcut on my desktop.
Screenshot 10 shows the CD Drive shortcut listed in the “Send to” listing.
Screenshot 11 shows the “Send to” listing after the steps were taken, but the CD drive name is not listed.

So, it appears the steps did not work for me. And, I did try the steps, “If it still won’t do ……” and still no luck.

    What do you think?

In File Explorer, View tab, Options then View tab again, the default is a checkmark on Hide empty drives, I have to uncheck it sometimes so programs can see it, let it show up on the Send to menu.

    Thanks Berton for the reply.

I think I found the links you mentioned. but it did not seem to help. The "Send to" menu always appears; it just will not show my DVD drive as an option.

    Hi Jerry, you're welcome.

    • Screenshot 12 shows my CD Disc shortcut on my desktop. Is that before or after you dragged it to 'send to'? The action of dragging and drop is a Move function. If that remains on your dsktp after you d&d'd it, I'd agree, somethings not right.
    • Screenshot 10 shows the CD Drive shortcut listed in the “Send to” listing. Okay.
    • Screenshot 11 shows the “Send to” listing after the steps were taken, but the CD drive name is not listed. When you move that shortcut it's always a generic naming convention of the drive, you should be able to rename it if it bothers you.
Here's mine after I rt clk'd on my Documents Folder like you show in Scrsht 11:
    Optical Drive Issue-send-.png

I'd like to wait until you reply to my question in Scrsht 12, if it is a remnant of the process try deleting the one on the dsktp and see if the one in send to also disappears. If it stays in send to, test it, and if you're still having problems I'd suggest you could go back to: Option One: To Add or Remove Items in Send To context menu for Your Account (current user) and do Step 3 to remove it and start over using Step 4 but be very careful of your steps in creating the shortcut and be sure you d&d that shortcut to the send to part of the address.

Grab the shortcut and drag it to the Send to part of the File Explorer address C:\Users\your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo and release your grab, in a second or so you'll see it appear with the rest of your Send to items.
I'm busy today and I probably won't be back until the evening.

    Hello again –

Hopefully, the following will answer your questions.

Screenshot 12 was the CD Disc shortcut before I dragged it to “send to.”
I repeated Option One again and this was the sequence:

    1. Screenshot 18 shows the dragged sequence. I selected “Move here.”
CD Disc shortcut is in lower left corner.
    2. After I Dropped the shortcut, I got screenshot 19. I then clicked on “Replace the file in the destination.”
    3. I then got screenshot 20. Notice the CD Disc shortcut that was below the Word icon on my desktop is no longer there.

I understand screenshot 20 can show a generic name, but I don’t see anything that would apply. I did try a couple of the less obvious names and no luck.

    Jerry

    Hi,

Okay, the op drv doesn't show when you rt clk on the Documents Folder. What happens if you open the Doc folder and select a file from a folder anywhere within it?

What happens if you rt clk on the Word Folder in File Explorer or select a file within Word, does the op drv show?

I'm going to see if I can get a few more members to take a look at your situation.

Steve, I don't see anyone has mentioned this

Add or Remove Drives in Send to Context Menu in Windows 10
