Adding an SSD

On the Hardware side : so if you want to add more SSD's without removing any existing Disks :

if you think there's not enough power slots available on your MOBO (but still enough SATA connectors) these are a good buy --- SATA power splitters really cheap and also saves fiddling around with Molex connectors : Amazon has these for 6 EUR (double pack) --US / Aussie etc people can source also from Amazon or equivalent



connect sata cables from your devices to sata ports on Mobo and connect the male end of this cable to existing sata power and connect the other two female ends (the power connectors) to your devices.

You can also add cheap 4 X SATA Port expansion cards as well if mobo doesn't have enough ports for more HDD's / SSD's. These cards are very cheap and all 4 ports on them are "bootable" too. So even on older gear there's no reason these days NOT to have an SSD - certainly for the OS.

Unlike HDD's you don't need to mount SSD's in an enclosure -- there's always enough space to put some SSD's in any old desktop type PC -- just tape to chassis or spare places with electrical tape --- if you don't use fixed DVD's any more you can tape 2 or 3 into a typical DVD caddy --loads of places to mount these easily.
