    new hard drive not found

Picked up a new Dell inspiron 5593 laptop win10 pro 1909. I have successfully filled the 500g ssd. I bought a new 1tb ssd (WD Blue 3D nand 1tb internal pc ssd-sata III6 gb/s, m.2 2280, up to 568 mb/s wds100t2bob) and drive enclosure (orico nvme pci-e m.2 ssd enclosure adapter usb3.1 type-c gen2 10gps to m.2 aluminum case for 2230/2242/2260/2280 pcie nvme m-key up to 2tb). I mounted the ssd to the board of the enclosure, plugged in the usb to the laptop, the blue light on the ssd ights up, but the new ssd is not shown in explorer. Does the same thing if I plug it into my desktop. Before I bought anything, I contacted Dell as to what ssd I would need and this is the part number they gave me. Am I not doing something right. These are the links to what I bought:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Thanks
    Mark

Was the SSD new or pre-owned?
Check to see if it’s shown within diskpart:
Open powershell with admin & type:
    diskpart
    list disk

If the drive does show then try cleaning the drive:
select disk X (where X is the number of the SSD)
    clean

Then go to disk management & it should ask whether you wish to initialise the drive - allow this, then for mat it.
If doesn’t show under diskpart then either then caddy, cable or drive is faulty.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, a new ssd, and I bought another new caddy just in case first one was defective. I'll try what you all suggest whn I get home. i'm trying to clone the 550gb to the 1tb using Acronis 2020 clone tool. When i open acronis, it gives a message box of it needs to see 2 hard drives to continue. I've done this before using acronis with regular sata hdd going to a larger ssd. This is the first time I'm working with nvme nand ssd's.

disk## status size free dyn gpt
    disk 0 online 476gb 14mb *
    disk 1 online 0b 0b

According to your OP, @mg8t7gn, you purchased a SATA SSD and an NVMe enclosure. A SATA SSD is not likely to work in an NVMe enclosure.

    Notice this line from:
Amazon.com ORICO NVMe PCI-e M.2 SSD Enclosure Adapter...

ORICO NVMe M.2 SSD case only for NVME M-Key M.2 SSD

The SSD you purchased is not an M-Key NVMe SSD, it is a SATA SSD.

It does appear the drive requires initialising.
Have you opened disc management to see if the initialise message appears?

    That would do.

The WD SN 750 is an M key NVMe drive--------------and one of the best.

I'd also look into the Samsung 970 Evo Plus.

The Intel 660P would also work and is cheaper.
