My first choice for disabling a few services. I don’t need them but some people may do.

    UPnP Device Host
    Smart Card

    Try those first, nothing else
I will try disabling those services, and as long as everything works that way I’ll leave it and see if the problem is fixed.

Update, both the suggested services are already not running.

    Okies,
The permission entries and ownership, ‘everyone’ and all entries I would have a good look though.
Chkdsk fix try a few times. I had to run chkdsk about 5 or 6 times once to fix a thumb drive.

There must be more that we can look into for sure. I’m ok at fixing to a certain point but some others on here might have other options we could try

With permissions it’s worth taking a look at the audit permissions and removing or disabling any inherent permissions still looming from old user accounts. Have a proper thorough scan through every permission

Just wanted to add with removing inherent permissions. if the user account dissapears after removing the crap, just re add the account user name and everything should be sweet

I set the permissions for “everyone” to “full control” but the issue seems to remain. There are no other users or groups that show up in the permissions dialog.

Also I ran chkdsk multiple times with no errors discovered. This is the same result I get after I start getting errors if I safely remove and re insert the drive; Windows will offer to scan it, scans it (apparently) when I tell it to, and finds nothing. But then it seems to work before getting to the reformat stage.

Theschrocketeer, I'm sure the problem isn't a windows issue. Did you tested the device with h2testw? As it writes and afterwords it reads, it takes a long time. First test 32G. I would say it will fail before that.

    Hi,
    Of course not

I will try to test one of the drives tonight.
Unless the test finds something, I have some experimenting to do to see if it is Windows that is doing this or the software I am running on it.

Did you try and change the drive letter?
Any conflicts between USB 2 and USB 3 ?
Bios settings might be worth having a look at. That’s where you have a bit more control.
Like running Legacy on Auto or even disabling if you don’t need. Xhci try on ‘Auto’ instead of ‘Smart’

I ran the test last night on the full claimed capacity of the drive and it returned no errors.

So I was wrong. Glad it did not find any errors.
Don't know any other suggestion to give you.
