Hi,
Without knowing the exact device I will now say bye bye you really don't want help.
I’m sorry but you haven’t really offered any help. I don’t know what “exact device” you are asking about.
Exactly the same happens with a hard drive if you swap the drive say to another machine. It will say drive needs to be formatted. Not true. The data is still there. Its just missing permission entries.
I would try and right click drive to properties and security and add your account name to the drive. Then, all of a sudden, the blank drive re appears with the drive size in gb’s and you can now access files.
If this is intermittent, then maybe you need to make sure you’re either logged into a Microsoft account all the time, or create a local account and use that users details, add them to the thumb drive, should be good to go after that.
Hope this helps some, good luck
I could try the permissions thing, but I’m not sure how it would make a difference, since this happens while plugged in with the computer Just sitting there.
Right !
Ok so how about trying to disable a few Windows services which doesn’t allow any hardware to auto play in the back ground?
Or even going through your Web browser and making sure all usb media, any extensions that auto play media files. Internet Explorer 11 has some amazing features which doesn’t seem to be with us anymore. Strange that hehe
I’m afraid that’s something I’m not too familiar with. I know how to disable services, but can you give me suggestions about which ones to try?
My first choice for disabling a few services. I don’t need them but some people may do.
UPnP Device Host
Smart Card
Try those first, nothing else![]()
As others have stated, if you are moving close to 230GB of data at a time, and it is so hugely important, then you should be using a USB 3 SSD, not flash drives.
Thanks for the reminder concerning different Windows editions was not so much about W7 and W10, it is more about the services running, other background stuff running -- differing from computer to computer. I remember now that only once was a flash drive rendered unusable "between Windows". I recommend an external HD, whether SSD or HDD, for large operations.
