Windows 10 Backlit Keyboard Timing Setting (??)

Running Windows 10 1909 64bit, on a HP laptop and the back keyboard times out in about 10 seconds.
I'm looking to adjust that some.
    Is it possible?
    Power shell command line string?
    Reg edit?
    It's driving me nuts....

Unfortunately, Windows has no control over that. Some laptops have utilities that allow you to adjust the keyboard backlight timeout while others have such options available in the BIOS. You might try checking to see if either of these are available to you.

If you can post the exact model of your laptop I can try to see if I can find anything specific for that model.

I've looked at the user guide for your laptop and it only tells you how to turn on and off the backlight but makes no mention of a timeout. However, I did find this in the HP knowledge base:

    _____________________
If the blacklight stays on for only a few seconds, the backlight timeout setting might need configuring in the BIOS.

note: If there is not a setting for the backlight timing in the BIOS, this behavior might not be supported on the notebook. Check your notebook model's product support documentation to confirm support.

Your BIOS version and screens might vary.

Restart the notebook, and then immediately press the F10 repeatedly until the BIOS opens.
When the BIOS opens, use the arrow keys to navigate to the Advanced tab.
Navigate to Built-in Device Options, and then press Enter.

In the Built-in Device Options, select Backlit keyboard timeout.
Press the spacebar to open the keyboard backlight settings, and then select the timeout setting you want.

note: If you select Never, the backlight remains on which could quickly drain the notebook battery power.

Let us know if you find any such options in the BIOS.

    As a matter of fact....
I cant even get into safe mode! wow.
No matter how I try to get in....
I get a message that says that I'm not connected to the Internet and I have to run the troubleshooter to fix the problem...
But I don't need to be connected...this is even Before I'd select....what is it...F5 for safe mode with networking?
Of course then it say sorry cant run the troubleshooter in safe mode...HaHa...
    A vicious circle...
    What's up with this??
BTW: The back lighting keyboard issue is a HP thing....

    - - - Updated - - -

Turns out, it's a HP issue. Some Bios version's have a setting to configure it some don't...
Mine does Not, so I'm just out of luck.
HP pretty much just washes their hands of the whole thing...They've got no answers.
But now, That issue brought up a bigger issue:
I cant even get Into Safe Mode....hahaha...what a trip...
    But that's a different thread...
    Thanks guys!

Try this method to get into safe mode:

    Press WIN + R
In the Run dialog, type "msconfig" and then press ENTER
    Go to the boot tab
Select "Safe boot" and click on OK
    reboot

Once in safe mode you will need to repeat this process and uncheck safe mode.

Back to the topic of the backlit keyboard...

    <START RANT>

Don't know why, but the design of backlighting for keyboards in general seems to really suck. I had a Dell where the behavior was the same - 10 seconds on and then it would go off. I finally found a Dell utility that allowed you to adjust it but that same utility did a lot of other things and introduced some other unwanted behaviors.

    Then there is HP...

I had one HP where pressing F5 would turn on or off the backlighting. It had one nice feature in that if you turned the backlight off one single key would stay lit - F5. That way you could actually see the backlight key to turn it on again. Now, my current HP laptop let's you turn on and off the backlight but F5 (the backlight key) does not stay on. So if it's dark, you have to fumble around and start pressing keys until you manage to find the F5 key. Worse yet, you can have those functions like the backlight key set to act as F5 by default and to only activate the backlight if you press Fn + F5 at the same time. Now you have to try to find 2 keys in the dark to turn on the backlight.

I can't help but wonder if the engineers who design this stuff actually ever use their own products. After backlight keyboards have been in existence for many years now, you would think that they could have something so simple down to a science now.

    <END RANT>

No that didn't work, same results...
It's like it's stuck in F5 regardless what I input.
There must be a setting somewhere that Makes it Only boot into safe mode with networking...
Maybe a command line that's whacked out?

So let me make sure I understand. Earlier you had said that you could not get into safe mode. But the above statement sounds like you saying that at the moment it will only boot into safe mode and that you cannot boot normally.

Could you just clarify the situation?

    Thanks!

I know, I'm not being clear.
    Okay...
When I use the different methods to enter safe mode the computer boots up and in the corners of the display it says

    "safe mode".

It doesn't go to the different "F" key choices.

I get this box that says, "You're not connected to the internet. Let's get you connected. Run the troubleshooter"

So it's coming up in safe mode, (that's good)

but somehow it's already got a command to go into safe mode with networking.
AND the computer has disconnected itself. So it wants to run the network troubleshooter.

    Pretty wild hey.
