    urgent help needed- lost partition

    Hi there
    I really need some help

    THe scenario:

I was using windows 7 and had HDD partitioned
    C for windows
    D for data and files

I went to install windows 10 and couldnt initially, so when it asked to install on drive i formatted and that didnt help, I then deleted the drive i created new and after reading about converting drive to GPT it worked, but now i have lost the D partition(drive) with all my data in it.

Is it posible to recover the partition and data in it?

    many thanks in advance

You can use Recuva to recover deleted files.

You can also see if MiniTool Partition Wizard, can recovery deleted partition.

Download Recuva | Recover deleted files, free!

You do have a backup, don't you?

My guess is otherwise you'd need expensive professional expertise.

For the future: save yourself a whole lot of pain, stress and frustration- use disk imaging.
tenforums members time and again recommend the routine use of disk imaging, image files being saved to an external medium. If you had a disk image, including D:, you would also have a complete restorable backup. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid).

It's worth trying to see if anything can be recovered, of course- file recovery software typically uses two levels of scanning. A deep scan can take hours.

You should get an assessment of the quality of any files found.

If there are files found at all, expect to spend some hours, and probably only partial recovery at best.

I think partition cannot be recovered but you can always try to recover your files.

Its really the data on the partition i want.

So given my circs, do you think i will be able to recover the data from that partition?

I had a similar situation last spring while having difficulty with my system. Had an Acronis backup. Reimaged my system, somewhere along the way I lost my data partition. Turns out the Acronis backup was worthless. Someone here recommended GetDataBack (not free). Was successful in restoring my data, so was worth the cost. I've switched to Macrium Reflect also recommended here.

I am using that software now, but as partition was lost, all the files names look wierd .
As I said when i installed windows 10 it wiped the partition, so I am not sure if i can recover any data that was on there.

I also have Active Undelete which I've used to recover data in the past. Much slower than GetDataBack. May also recover data from deleted/overwritten partitions.

You will only find out by trying.
As your PC is unbootable, you need a live boot disk.

    Possibilities:
Kyhi's boot disk- several data and partition recovery programs included.
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk
Download the iso, create a bootable disk from it e.g. using the instructions in the Clean install Windows 10 tutorial, but using this iso file.

    Then there are others e.g.
Download EaseUS Bootable Data Recovery Software to Recover Files - EaseUS
