    About M2 SSD Interface Question

I know that all devices MUST have an interface to talk with each other. So I got this M2 SSD drive from amazon (sorry now), and it's working fine. So far no problems and using it as a boot drive on a PC that was built 7 years ago and out of date. I'm using a shell script to load it in. Anyway, I called upon Speecy to read it for me and notice that all my other drives have an interface and TRIM support. Does M2 drives have TRIM? Anyway, any comments would be appreciated. I've enclosed a pic of SSD 1 and SSD 2 to show what I'm talking about.

Be aware m.2 is just as interface that can support either SATA or PCIE (NVMe) drives.

Anyway your image shows the device to be a PCIE drive, so you have an NVMe drive. And yes, m.2 drives can support TRIM. That said, again, make and model would help, but this info (TRIM support) can also be found on the manufacture's sites.

I've learned my lesson on ordering things through Amazon where there is no contact info. for the future. The seller of the M2 doesn't have any info to contact. It's made by Inland. I know MC sells their product as well, but I'm sure they don't have any info for me either since I didn't get it from them.

Amazon is not in the business of tech support and never was. If you have a tech support issue, you need to contact the manufacture. Also, if you buy products of unknown origin that could be problematic.

    Sorry.

BTW I shop at Amazon all the time and have bought plenty of PC parts from them over the years without issue for various builds. What I DON'T do is buy PC parts (or electronics) from their third party sellers unless I absolutely know of them. And even then, when given the choice, I buy direct from Amazon because of their easier return policy.

All that said, you also need to be aware that not all third party software will show whether an NVMe device supports TRIM or not. Some third party software simply can't read everything a device can do or supports. Meaning I would not rely on speccy to be the end all, know all.

Well said, and for that I thank you. What software (free) could I use to check out this M2 SSD?

First off, I'll say with full confidence if the drive is an SSD drive it will most likely (99.999 percent) support TRIM.

Software wise, I "think" the only software that can say whether an NVMe's drive is TRIM enabled is the software specifically designed for the drive itself. Example Samsung's Magician will show whether an TRIM is enabled (supported) or not...

That said, one way to tell if a drive is TRIM enabled is the watch the Optimized screen. Right click the drive, choose Properties, Tools, click Optimize, choose the drive you want optimized and click Optimize - watch the progress bar...

if it says trimmed, the drive supports TRIM. But again, I'd be shocked if the that didn't happen.

    - TRIM
    Type this cmd
    fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

It will give you one of two results, either a 0 or a 1. A zero indicates that TRIM is enabled correctly, a one means that it is not. If you have a TRIM-compatible SSD, but find that Windows hasn't enabled the command, you can easily do so by running this command:

    fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0

To get some info about your M.2 drive, download CrystalDiskInfo, extract and and run (don't need to be installed)

The command results aren't exactly intuitive:

    @timlab55,

Don't get caught up in the rocket science of things, only understand that TRIM is supported. There are various methods and procedures to read, enable, and disable TRIM.

I agree, I just ran the trim support cmd and this is what I got back: I just wanted to make sure I was treating my baby with cuddle hands that's all.
