GW2K AIO Verson Updates Always Fail JMicron SD Card Reader

I have an old Gateway 2000 AIO Kitchen PC. I has always failed feature updates but does allows a clean install. After clean install both the TV tuner and SD card reader don't work. I removed the TV tuner because our cable system recently scrambled the signal and I now stream all my content. I do need to use the SD card slot sometimes for pictures and a Raspberry Pi. I found a version of the Jmicron JMB38 driver that works with Win10 but unfortunately this driver seems to be the hangup to updates. Currently running 1809 and want to update to 1909. Any ideas? Thanks.

If the driver is causing you issues, you might either have to uninstall the driver or clean install the 1909 update.

That said, a Gateway 2000 PC is a really old machine with old tech hardware. And if I'm not mistaken isn't that an old Intel Pentium board with ISA slots? I'm quite surprised you got Windows 10 to run on it. I guess it's a testament to 10's ability to handle old hardware.

Anyway, that might be your only option seeing you said you had to do clean installs in the past. Good luck.

You can pick up a Refurb i3 or i5 computer with 8GB ram and a 500GB/1TB 7200RPM hard drive for $150. Might be time to look at doing that, perhaps as a Christmas present to yourself Most will have a Media card reader as well. If not you can add a USB attached one for $10.

See here for instance: Amazon refurb computers

Thanks. It’s a 2.33GHz core 2 Quad w/ 8gb Ram and SSD + 2TB HD. Actually runs Win 10 very well. Wife uses it for surfing, email, watching TV and storing music. It’s all in one format is perfect for kitchen. I was hoping to keep it for a bit longer

That's a fine computer. From your original post it sounded like it was ancient and decrepit

If the SD Card reader is causing problems, disable it and get a USB replacement for around $10. That may resolve your problems and allow you to upgrade to later versions of Win 10.

I was reading another post this week by someone else whose computer was stuck on an old version of win10 and someone suggested a registry hack enabling legacy drivers with windows updates. Well guess what - this morning my old machine updated to 1909 after I changed that registry setting from 0 to 1. Unfortunately I can’t find the post with the exact key.

Was it from something like option 2 below?

That looks more like what you were referring to.

You can check your registry to see what it's currently set to in reference to the article.
