    Can't burn DVDs

I can't burn DVDs on Windows 10 1909. Whenever I try to burn one of them the software talks about a PMA update failure. I've tried different media, software, burning speed and a clean Windows 10 install but I still have this issue.

Looking at Google... It is possible it has slipped into PIO Mode, go into device manager and try this

If under "Transfer Mode" you have PIO, then you need to click on Driver, then Uninstall, OK and “reboot/restart” your computer. Don’t worry, once restarted, Windows should automatically reinstalled them back.

I can't find any "Transfer Mode" in Windows 10.

Download, install and run the following -

    Intel(R) Driver & Support Assistant

    What model is the drive?
Are you using a RAID controller?
Is there a BIOS update for your system?
What software are you using to burn?

Probably incompatible Disc Media, try other brands/manufacturers. I tend to use DVD+RW, so never waste discs, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell.

Also you will need to very carefully clean the optics that come out in the tray.
I shine a LED torch at a low angle viewed thru a magnifying glass. That shows up dust on the optics.
Broadly speaking this is a yearly maintenance task.

Assuming the specs you list are correct, my laptop is a very similar model and age.
The transfer mode PIO stuff is very out of date stuff for old EIDE optical drives which preceded SATA drives. Not applicable here.

PIO is an old IDE thing and would be under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager. It's very old school and highly doubtful it applies to your system. Here's what it would have looked like back then (before SATA)...

Been there, done that. Anyway, I'm betting a thousand dollars under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers yours says "SATA AHCI controllers" so you can forget about PIO since it doesn't apply to your PC.

The key to Googling solutions is understanding how "found" solution may or may not apply to the situation at hand.

That out the way, I'm amazed to find no one asked what DVD drive you're using or if you're running any DVD burning software??? I myself still use an old version of NXT (Roxio) to burn my DVD's as I simply hate the way Windows works - drag and drop.

Also, agree with Helmut that some DVD media don't always play well with different DVD drives. Don't know why, but it has been known to happen.

Several years ago I found some CD/DVD drives didn't like the colored discs when they first came out so I learned to avoid those discs.

Verbatim gave me issues as well when I used them. Now I strictly use Memorex. Also use Roxio Creator NXT 2 for my burns.

As for those colored disks, I've used them, still have some, but find them more unappealing than anything else. But yeah, I've had some of those turn into coasters as well.

I ran it and it stated the Intel sofwtare is updated.

The drive's model is TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB, I'm using the latest BIOS version and I've used Nero, ImgBurn and ConvertXtoDVD. How can I know if I'm using a RAID controller?

It was working before with Verbatim DVD-Rs and on local stores it's rare to find other brands (Sony DVD-Rs are getting increasingly rare and I only see Philips DVD-Rs some times besides Verbatim ones) and I currently only have Verbatim DVD-Rs. I'm doing exactly the same procedure so I guess the DVD's are clean and I've tried in another PC and I successfully burned them.

Yes, it says "SATA AHCI controllers". My drive is TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB and I've tried Nero, ImgBurn and ConvertXtoDVD (I use the latter to burn movies).

EDIT: I have a DVD drive (connected to a TV) which only works up to the latest ConvertXtoDVD 4 version (this version is from 2012, I think) and even so some of the burned DVDs aren't read (at least Verbatim DVD-Rs ones) and they usually stop (for a second or so) some times when watching a movie so I have to use a portable version of it since I installed and use the latest ConvertXtoDVD version to burn movies which I don't want to see in that DVD drive but elsewhere. Can someone help me fix this problem?
