    SD Card Reader

    Hi

Every SD card I plug in to my PC says it is Write Protected.

I have tried everything I can find on internet to fix this but to no avail.

    Can anyone help please?

Hello Philnz, and welcome to Ten Forums.

In addition, you might see if an option in the tutorial below may help with this write protection issue.

I hate to state or ask the obvious but some SD cards have a toggle switch to write protect them. Did you check this?

    Welcome to Ten Forums philnz.

This may be a physical problem rather than a software one. SD cards have a write protect notch on the left edge and a slider to lock or unlock the card.

Check yours is unlocked before inserting. Insert it, then remove it carefully. Has the slider moved? if so it is catching on something as you insert it and moving it to the locked position. If not, then your card reader may be faulty. This notch should be detected by a microswitch in the reader, that switch may have failed.

    Thanks

I identified the card reader and installed an updated driver which solved the problem. Thanks all.
