    Storage Spaces Can't Prepare Drives

So I'm reformatting my old storage space drives, as I was getting a strange capacity error with them. I properly deleted the old storage pool and wiped the drives, but now when I go to recreate the storage pool, I get the following error message. I've tried both formatted and unformatted drives, resetting the drives via powershell, but nothing seems to resolve this. Any ideas?

Check the hard disk for for errors by executing Chkdsk X: /r /x command.

Tried both this and the Repair-Volume cmdlet, still getting the incorrect parameter. I took a look at the snart data as well, and one of the drives is throwing a warning in the reallocated sectors on one of the drives, but even trying to make a storage pool out of the supposedly healthy drive results in the same error. Thanks for the idea though!

Reallocated Sector Count Warning indicates a failing hard drive.

Right, but as I said, only one of the two drives I'm attempting to add to the storage pool is indicating failing health. The second drive is completely healthy, but, even by itself, produces the same error message as when I try with both drives, so it is unlikely that the reallocated sector count warning is the cause of the storage pool error.

    Hi there
Storage spaces are a bit of an abomination on Windows --they break easily and sometimes are incompatible between releases.

If you need to stripe / mirror volumes then I'd advise either get a RAID controller card or use spanned volumes.

I know this is an old thread, but it come up at #4 at google search for some odd reason and does not seem give a solution.
Therefore might be a good reason to necro this thread.

The seems to be a common issue but still exist in the latest build.
The solution to use powershell instead of the GUI.

Detailed guides can be found here:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d4481ae?page=2
    and here:
Creating a Storage Space in Windows 10 with Powershell

Hopefully those 2 pages can be bump back up to #4 in Google search.

    Hi there
Forget Storage spaces on any version of Windows --they break easily and sometimes aren't even consistent between releases --added to which they use a propretary file system which makes it not possible to share these devices with NON Windows devices -- so for example if you have a smart TV / Amazon fire stick wanting to access these devices for multimedia streaming etc --tough luck !!!.

If you want to "aggregate HDD's" -- then just go for a RAID controller card and use a sensible RAID system.

    1. 99% admin fault 1% hardware fault
    2. backward compatibility between newer driver and older pool is always maintained
    3. ntfs or refs, same as other windows volumes
    4. lie.

If you really want your own incompetence and ignorance to be presented to as much people as possible, please repeat these claims more often.

    As I already said:

Every RAID is an advanced technology which requires knowledge, otherwise loss of big amount of data is possible. And especially Storage Spaces require very competent administrator, familiar with theoretical concepts and routine usage of powershell.

How can I turn my storage space into a non-ss raid or spanned volume?
