    Lost 50% HDD capacity

Hi, I have posted the following on the AOMEI forum. I have W10 with all updates.

On a 1TB external USB attached HDD , not SSD, with two partitions of 460+ GB, I wanted to merge the two partitions

into one partition. So D: and G: into one x 1TB partition. I Used AOMEI merge partitions. There was data
    on drive G: only

It ran for a few hours but when it had had finished I had two x 232GB partions so lost 500 GB capaity
    on the drive.

This was done on my Laptop running on battery, I think the power may have run out part way through the process.

Is there some way I can recover my full drive capacity.

    Any advise appreciated

    Regards

    Daniel

You now have two 232 GB partitions on a 1 TB drive as I understand it.

My guess is that the remainder is "unallocated space" that can be added to either of those partitions. That's only a guess.

Post a screen shot of what you see in Windows Disk Management.

Is ALL of your data on 1 of those 2 partitions? If so, I'd assume you can delete the other one?

You may need to use Minitool Partition Wizard to correct the problem.

    Hi

I have attached a jpg of Disk Manager showing the disk.

No data was saved, the G drive had just over 400GB of data and the D drive was empty.

I have the data backed up so that is not an issue, I just need the space back.

If nothing you need is on D or G, delete both and see what is then recognized.

I'd take a look at it in Minitool Partition Wizard.

I think I recall a similar problem on these forums not too long ago, but I don't recall the resolution.

Try Diskpart in a command prompt.

When you get the DISKPART> prompt, type LIST DISK

be very careful to make sure you identify the correct disk number, use that in place of # in the next command.

    SELECT DISK #
    CLEAN
    EXIT

This will remove the partition table from the drive. See if Disk Management now shows an unallocated space of the correct size.

    Hi

I tried Minitool Partition Wizard but you have to pay to recover lost partitions so I tried DISK Part and
    nothing changed.

Can you post a screen shot of Diskpart after the clean command?

Are you absolutely certain that you haven't somewhere along the line mixed up this disk with another smaller one?

To read from the drive exactly what model it is and what capacity it is supposed to have use something that can read its SMART data, such as CrystalDiskInfo. I prefer to use the portable version that requires no install.

CrystalDiskInfo Portable (disk health monitoring) | PortableApps.com

You should see something like this:

This model and size information is read direct from the HDD's internal firmware, so cannot have been modified however much you formatted the drive.
