    No CPU_FAN

Corsair 680x case, Ryzen 3900x, Aorus Master x570.

I have been grappling with noisy fans since I build the system on Saturday. I finally figured out it was the bottom two fans that were making the noise so I have removed them. I have plugged the remaining fans in to the Commander Pro, including the pump fans. I wonder if this is ok and what are the long term ramifications of having no fan plugged into the cpu_fan connector.

The system is nice and quiet now and the temps are 31c for cpu and 54c for graphics card.

    Which AIO cooler?

Anyway, (speaking on Corsair's AIO's) there's nothing wrong with having the fans plugged into the pump. In fact the AIO is designed to handle that. However, if plugging the fans into the pump, the only way to control them is via the iCUE or Link software. As for the single wired cable, that's simply used to read the fan and pump speed. It can be plugged into the CPU-FAN header without issue or problem.

See my posts here and here.

Let me know if I missed something?

    Hi Sygnus, thanks for responding.

I have since worked out that there is a small fan connector attached the the sata plug of all places, so I have now plugged it in to the cpu_fan plug and everything is as it should be.

I think the cpu_fan plug's main purpose is to warn you if somethings not right, such as over-heating which is important.

If all else fails.....consult your mobo manual. It will tell where are all the fan headers are at and where the CPU fan header is.

It's actually the pump's tach cable for reading the pump's speed...

But yes, theoretically, if it stops you should get a heat warning

FYI, when I first got my H100i, I wasn't using the Corsair software, or even the USB cable to the pump. One day I was going into the BIOS and was greeted by a front page notice my CPU temps were high! Turns out the H100i's pump died, thus the high temps. However, I was never warned because I had neither the USB cable connected nor the Corsair software installed. Lesson learned items installed! And it was sheer luck I went into the BIOS when I did.

BTW Corsair RMA'd the pump without issue and the replacement is still running strong 3+ years later

I think the main reason to have the pump and /or heat sink fan connected to the cpu_fan connector is that you can set a low level alarm on BIOS if pump and /or heat sink fan fails. It will alert you before the temperature rises up.
Does Commander Pro do the same alert?

You can setup notifications in Corsair's iCUE software (which you need with the Commander Pro).
