    Hardware issue or driver?

My W10 PC (Build 10.0.18362 Build 18362) has been acting buggy for a few days now. I scanned with multiple security products including Malwarbytes Bitdefender and others and Im not finding anything.

I first noticed a problem while running Handbrake. It would just quit within a couple minutes. The error specific to Handbrake was LOW MEMORY! Which is crazy, Ive got plenty of memory.

Under Problem Reports I found errors listed:

A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

    ETC. ETC

I havent a clue how to proceed. I updated drivers last week but didnt have problems until now.

Is there a tool I can scan with that can give me a clear answer? I dont know what to do with the criptic info provided by the error report

    Any help would be appreciated

Most likely something in your encode settings, try different presets.

Appreciate the quick reply. Handbrake is just what went wrong first. Since then other things have been acting buggy. I click on a web browser for instance and it takes ten seconds for the spinning wheel to eventually open the browser. My PC is built for speed and this lag is ridiculous. I find it interesting that Handbrake mentioned memory because this seems like maybe a memory thing, maybe a memory driver thing? Everything is just majorly delayed, click on something, anything...ThisPC, I just clicked on it, the blue spinning wheel just turns and turns and actually it never opened it just quit spinning.

    Very unstable...

Have you tried a cold boot? Simply restart the computer, rather than shutdown.

I just did a reboot. Then performed a Windows Memory test and everything was fine.

After the reboot everything appeared to be working again. I connected to the internet and DLed the current version of Handbrake. I began editing a video and everything appeared fine until 2.85% into the task the program just quit and I got a black screen for a minute then a message that my Desktop could not be found.

Wow, this thing is wildly out of whack.

I would help tremendously if you listed your PC's system specs otherwise it's just guesswork on the answers you get. Example, we don't know: RAM, CPU, GPU, HD/SSD or particular Win 10 OS you're running (your build sounds like 1903, but...)

And yes, anyone of those items could be causing issues - example not enough RAM; Slow GPU / CPU; disk space running low, etc...

    Help us help you.

Great, i just deleted my answer by mistake. Was trying to edit it on my phone and must have tapped delete by mistake. Can a mod bring it back?

Sorry, got sidelined all of a sudden yesterday.

I rolled back a SATA AHCI Controller driver update and that seems to have stabilized the PC. I think I recall a recommendation that the chipset/cotroller should never be updated. I think that may be whats going on here. Still having trouble with Handbrake but I think its their problem. Still diagnosing...

Actually as it turns out the Handbrake issue was my fault, duh. I was repeatedly trying to process the same bad file but there was no error message, my PC ran through its memory trying to decode a corrupt audio file.

The strange PC behavior is now entirely gone. Between rolling back the chipset driver update and discovering the error of my ways in using Handbrake, everything now appears normal. Fingers crossed.

Spoke too soon, I just looked at Windows problem report and errors keep accumulating for some reason.

    Problem Details:
A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

There are 400+ such errors reported. Too cryptic for me to decode. The machine seems stable to me and as a matter of fact the last thing I was going to do was to check errors confident there wouldnt be any, but they are still accumulating.

    What to do?

Lost nearly all indexing in Windows, having to rebuild. Screwy.
