all usb drives external shows device icon ( like unspecified)

I changed value for power source in powersettings hkey local machine via registry editor. I dont know this problem could be or not, because icon not shows shows only paper white and unspecified device in printers all usb device connected. I disabled usb ports in device manager all, and when i disabled usb root hub computer run in a problem and restarted i got blue screen. But when starting again drivers reinstalled auto. I did reinstall windows. When boots up computer shows usb disk drive ok, sd card reader shows icon ok, but when log ot from pc or restart or shutdown doesnt matter now blank paper icon when usb connected hard drive. In virtual machine same when installed shows ok, when reboot vm machine shows blank paper. In vm i disabled all usb ports and usb root hub vm machine worked, not run a problem like local computer goes. I did via registry to default icon like youtube tutorial i dont know why not mine changed i did correct , on youtube video changed , and fixed, mine not. I try connecting bluetooth via phone to pc, shows device name my phone, and bluetooth device. Not unspecified. On vm machine shows all usn connected unspecified. I dont know how to fix!!!!

When did this start for you? I am on Windows 8.1 and I got this issue late last night after a reboot. I posted a question on Superuser and got a reply by someone else who also just started having this exact same problem that just started today.

I dont know acctually. Maybe started when changed registry in powersettings value from 1 to 2. Or maybe when i plugged sdcard adapter and in sdcard i hidden all files in sdcard via computer hidden option i take all subfolders and folders and files. But when i connected to phone sd card still shows as a unhide. But when i reinsert to pc i dont remember what the icon was. I unhide items .. so i unninstall all usb devices in device manager. And when i unninstalled usb hub all two usb drivers so my pc run in problem. Maybe that? But my friend connected to my pc hes usb hard drive still shows device icon not the looks like local c or d. I read when going to devices and printers happened that but i dont go them. I did reinstall windows not helped. In my friend pc he connected hes usb drive looks ok with icon. But when goes he to devices and printers all the usb devices when connected to computer shows look mine devixe blank icon because unspecified😂😂😂😂. Wtf. I read forum only happened when goes to devices and printers. But i dont do that. And i see forum when connected to internet and plug in usb shows look mine , i tried method dont fixed. Still with or without internet connection i plugged usb still shows weird icon. I fuc.... piss... off.... how did that????? And i worried about when i connected usb to my pc the flash drive was icon on next pc looks like mine now blank paper weird icon.. or not be?????

It's nothing you did, it's on Microsoft's end and this is affecting lots of people. They messed something up and our automatic retrieval of metadata for devices downloaded the bad information from Microsoft, "updating" all of our devices. We have to wait for Microsoft to sort this out.

This really fixed damaged icon??? After new update??? What to do when not fixed ti me? And when i connected new usb to my pc now, and on other pc looks like icon same as like mine pc, and usb hard drive damaged by icon???? Or not? I paranoid very!

The first thread that I found about this and thanks to the links here I have found the other pages where people have reposted this problem. It's so good to see that this porblem was not just me, I was getting crazy about this that happened since a few days ago. I was becoming even more crazier before finding this because the same problem happened to me in four computers and with multiple USBs and I just thought about possibilities about this (maybe a virus or idk) but anyway, it's comforting to see that it was not just me.

Anyway, I hope Microsoft fixes this as soon as possible, the icon is also really ugly, and also made me turn crazy about this for the weekend and until today.

Was wondering when something about this would surface. We have 3 PC's that are affected by this and were going crazy trying to work out what was going on, we were considering a System Restore on one of the Pc's to see if it would fix it. This happened to us a few days ago and searches were finding nothing but problems with printers. Guess we can relax now knowing it's not a problem with our system's only.
