    USB flash drive gets hot

Why does my Sandisk Ultra 3.0 drive get hot while using MCT? The original Windows 10 retail read-only USB drive doesn't heat up that much during Windows 10 installation. How much amperage does the Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 drive use and how much does the original Windows 10 USB flash drive use?

Any electric device heats. It's normal.
Similar devices has different hardware so they heat different. If it's worm, (30º to 50ºC) it's normal. Above 50ºC isn't.
For the device current you must ask to the manufacturer.

USB uses milliamps. If the removable device is getting so hot that you cannot remove it, either it or the device it is plugged into has a problem. USB sticks have been known to get hot when used on the NVIDIA Shield. The metal shield acts as a heatsink and transfers the heat to the shell of the drive. Use an USB extension cable is the solution.

Open Device Manager. Find Universal Serial Bus controllers, and click to open. Find the entries for USB Root Hub. Right-click each one and select Properties. Select the Power tab.

You will see something like this:

USB flash drive gets hot-image.png or USB flash drive gets hot-image.png

Each device on the Hub will show its power usage requirements up to the maximum of 500 mA.
