I just installed a 16GB ram into my computer and its showing only 3.9GB usable. I have been looking for solutions on how to fix this issue. Let me know if you need anything else. I'm not really an expert with computers. I just want to play Modern Warfare with stable frames!
I have AMD FX 8350 Eight Core Processor on a Windows 10 64 bit computer.
Did you check the BIOS to see if the module is being seen properly? Windows, or any other OS, can only work with what the BIOS reports as available resources. Could be the module is the problem, wrong size, won't work in your computer, etc.
Not 100% sure what to look for but it says my Total Memory: 4080 DDR3 133MHz
Module size 4096Mbytes.
I didn't personally build this computer, my dad did years ago. He is recommending just getting both Intel Motherboards and Processors instead to replace what I have now.
Hello Logan123 and welcome to the Forums. I believe you are OK. If you look at the top screenshot, CPUz reports you have 16 GB installed. And the Task Manager shot shows 13.9 committed.
Task Manager also shows 12.1GB Hardware Reserved. That is normally due to the memory being incompatible, as it turned out to be here in this solved thread:

I believe this is some kind of hardware problem. Can't help you with that.
The 16 GB RAM reported by CPU-Z only means that the RAM is present and can be identified. This does not imply the memory is good or fully compatible, just that it is there. Windows has stricter requirements, that it actually works. I believe the BIOS does a very simple memory test to determine how much memory is actually usable and Windows won't try to exceed this. In this case it is 4080 MB. Rounded down to the next lower .1 GB and you get 3.9 GB. The rounding is just for display purposes.
Task Manager reports 12.1 GB as hardware reserved. This does not mean it is somehow reserved by Windows. Any difference between the total RAM installed (16 GB) and what is actually usable (3.9 GB), whatever the cause, is reported as hardware reserved.
The commit limit (13.9 GB) is the size of usable RAM plus the size of the pagefile, minus a small overhead. That would mean a current pagefile size of 10 GB. There is no implication it is being used.
go in bios settings and enable memory mapping.
My local computer (where I shop) tech says any RAM MOD must have the internal architecture that the motherboard calls for, how one determines the mobo requirements and the RAM MOD specs -- I don't know. That's why I let him get my ram mods :)
I can't find the memory mapping option. Maybe because my bios hasn't been updated since 2012 but if the issue is my hardware compatibility, what would you guys recommend?

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)
2) Open administrative command prompt and copy and paste:
wmic memorychip get manufacturer, capacity, partnumber, speed, memorytype, devicelocator, formfactor
3) When this has completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread
4) Was the RAM listed on the Qualified Vendor List (QVL)?
