Strange issue with asus k55vd - I suspect mainboard is broken/failing

    Hello.

I need urgent help. This asus laptop was working fine and out of thin air it booted to a black screen and the user could not boot into w10 anymore.

I performed a clean installation which seemingly went fine but trying to install vga driver (intel hd 4000. Processor is i7 3rd gen. Ivy bridge) put w10 on another permanent black screen.

I have also noticed Realtek audio wasn't working either although driver seemed fine.

Everytime the system is restarted, the black screen appears (no bios post). If shutdown is forced it will start normally afterwards.

BIOS is up to date. Tried reflashing it but ASUS EZ Flash 2 isn't working either.

I also did a memory test and tried different memory sticks. No difference at all.

    IDEAS?

Use older graphics & audio driver. Sometimes win7 drivers are the best. You can find them at asus website.

Already tried videodriver from ASUS website. Same effect = Black Screen.

It can be hw problem.. resolution, refresh freq, dual graphics, broken gpu logic.. try to connect external monitor & experiment with settings. Hard to troubleshoot, esp. at notebook.

Everytime the system is restarted, the black screen appears (no bios post). If shutdown is forced it will start normally afterwards.
Some systems do thorough POST only at cold boot, it can be expected behavior.

I also forgot mentioning that factory installed OS was Win8, but when installing w10 from scratch it said it couldn't be activated because there was no key found.

Does anybody know how can I update BIOS (even if it's latest version already) without using ASUS EZ Flash 2 (which isn't working currently)?

I will check using an external monitor too as suggested above.

I hate to ask but did the owner bounce the laptop around ?
On some old Asus Laptops the video cord can come loose.
Most Asus have a hdmi or vga out port, try connecting to a monitor .
See if the issue is present.

I am now trying out an external monitor using VGA input....

It's funny, when using an external monitor, touchpad doesn't work anymore.

And...... Lo and behold... With an external monitor, vga driver installed fine and also W10 activation came back to life all by itself...

    What to do?

I have also found out that external monitor doesn't work when BIOS is in UEFI Mode.

When launching CSM mode it works and it seems it still allows for UEFI booting...

If you can run each V2 and DM log collectors with English as the default language I'll screen logs collected for major problems.

Please upload them into this thread.
