I have PCI-e version 3.0, even so, initially, the 980 Pro was without rival in speed compared to my 970 Plus. Then, over like 2 months, the write speed degraded drastically. Others were reporting even more pronounced reductions in write speed, with PCI-e 4.0. The eagerly anticipated 1 st firmware update by Samsung was a dud--nothing happened. It was disappointing to say the least.

One week ago, I got the 2nd update to version 3B2QGXA7. Haven't benchmarked it yet (prob. I'm chicken) but it feels faster, boot is 21 sec. and apps open almost instantly. So, I'm content. But this write issue lasted me about 3 months. I hope it never happens again. Oh, and I have the Microsoft storage driver.

Shawn, if you create this thread at 11Forum, you might want to add this to the 1st post

On Windows 11, if you want to use DirectStorage, and you have a compatible graphics card, you will need to uninstall the Samsung NVMe driver:
DirectStorage requires an NVMe SSD to store and run games that use the "Standard NVM Express Controller" driver and a DirectX12 GPU with Shader Model 6.0 support.

Thank you Cliff. I'll go ahead and add it here.

I'm sure Samsung will have a compatible driver for Windows 11 released soon enough though.

FWIW currently the 980Pro uses the Microsoft driver, not the Samsung one, so who knows.

A few pages back there was an issue where the NVMe driver installer would not run. This was happening to me and was driving me up a wall, but the callout that there were 'security improvements' made me remember something I ran into a long time ago. Basically some executables are vulnerable to dll injection and need to be run from an empty folder, or from somewhere that isn't the default downloads location, to avoid being attacked from existing malware in the same folder. So I created a new folder, moved the driver installer into there, and it ran successfully.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.
