That's a very user unfriendly thing Samsung does for some reason. If this unwise practice costs them customers, they have richly earned it.

I started verifying that a Macrium backup is operational after a full backup using Macrium VIBoot, after I had a failed restore on another computer last week.
This was not NVMe related, but it was enough to make me double check to verify that the backup process would always restore.

I found that if you are using the Samsung NVMe Driver, the backup would not load as a virtual machine with VIBoot, The VM was created ok but it would never complete booting.
Windows would say it experienced a problem and start the information collection process then try to reboot again.

I uninstalled the Samsung NVMe Driver program and uninstalled the disk in Device Manager, then rebooted.
Verified that the NVMe was using the Microsoft driver and made another backup.

This backup was loaded into VIBoot and it booted up just fine without any issues. I also verified that it would run in the Hyper-V Manager. All good there as well.

I have yet to try to restore using either backup, but I plan to try this tomorrow starting with restoring a backup with Samsung drivers installed then restoring a backup with Microsoft drivers.

If you are using the Samsung drivers you may want to test this out on your own. I'm glad my other restore failure on another computer made me rethink the whole backup and restore process.

So today I tested restoring two images with Marcium. One with the Samsung NVMe drivers and one with the Microsoft drivers. Happy to say that both images restored successfully.
Needless to say my worries were unfounded.
Still an issue with VIBoot though.

Looking at the Samsung website now shows the 3.2 driver... Did they pull the new one already?

Apparently. May have been a mistake and was never really available for download.
