How to get older drivers to work in Windows 10

    Hello,

I hope you can help me. We at school recently purchased a new computer, and installed Win 10. But unfortunately our microscope which has a digital camera Olympus DP25 does not work.

to be more precise, when installing the driver for the camera, it simply nothing happens after the installation.

therefore we can assume that the driver is not compatible with Win 10.

So my question is how to get older drivers to work in Windows 10 ?

i did a little research, and i found this: Getting older drivers to work in Windows 8 | Alphr

    YouTube

but regardless, do you know of any other solution we can try ?

We are going to try this on monday.

if unfortunately nothing works, then we will install dual boot, first we will install windows xp, and then win 10.

and if you can give me an example of how we can install dual boot.

    Thank you

    Dual boot with '7, '8
Dual Boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 or Windows 8

Older drivers may or may not work with Win 10 - it depends. 16 bit drivers- software- are incompatible with a 64 bit O/S.

    Software Downloads | Olympus IMS
It seems there is 32 bit and 64 bit software- I can't see which is a critical driver there.

Otherwise you can try installing the driver in compatibility mode. (Rt click, troubleshoot compatibility).

Also consider using a virtual machine- e.g. free VirtualBox- install and run e.g. XP in that (imaging installing, booting up and shutting down XP within a Win 10 window).

You may learn more about what happened when your camera software ran by inspecting the event log at the relevant time or possibly by inspecting Reliability History, or possibly this; Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer

Maybe yes but much more info needed:

    - exact link to driver package you already installed (or upload it somewhere)
    - in Device Manager, rightclick the Olympus device & select Properties, tab Driver, button Driver Details
...write down all the files with red sign (see the example picture).

Perhaps then I will be able to make much simpler solution than dualboot.

Are you able to verify the operation of the FireWire (IEEE 1394) port?

(I haven't used FireWire in years.)

Since that camera works with Windows 10, see this about running a XP VM. How to add an XP Mode Virtual Machine to Windows 10 (or 8) using Hyper-V The Answer in this post gives you info on a Hyper-V XP VM. Get official Windows XP virtual machine for Hyper-V - Super User

XP SP3 can be downloaded from the Internet Archive along with other elder software. archive.org

Note: Hyper-V is only available with Win 10 Pro upwards. For Home use e.g. Virtualbox (downloadable, free).

Install the old driver from an admin account. Run the installer file as administrator with compatibility mode settings for the OS it was designed for.

You could also try the Open Inside option in 7-Zip to copy the files in the installer's .exe file, copy them to a temporary folder and the setup.exe program (or similar file) from there using the options as above.

Install the old driver from an admin account
    • Log on to an admin account
    • Right click the installer's .exe file, select the compatibility tab and set the options for the OS e.g. Windows 7, Windows XP etc
    • Right click the installer .exe file and choose Run as administrator

Use 7-Zip to extract installer .exe file contents
    • Install 7-Zip 7-Zip
    • Open 7-Zip and navigate to the installer's .exe file
    • Select File / Open Inside. Select all the files shown and copy to a folder of your choice
    • Run the installation file (setup.exe or similar) from the folder you created above
