    Chromebook Printer Question

Hey all. I know this doesn't belong on this subforum but does anyone now if you have a chromebook, can you print from it if you have a printer? Thus imagine like a regular windows computer connected to like an HP printer... i would print it by connecting hp printer to my windows laptop.

But does anyone know if i could download a driver and then use it to print with the chromebook instead? I read online that you could connect via wifi or usb cable... i have no idea what that even means connecting via wifi to a printer. I mean doesn't the printer have to be connected via a cable to a computer no matter what?

I ask this because i print things a few times only and when i do this, i always use this old windows laptop that has hp drivers installed but that laptop is old and slow. But could i print from it using my chromebook instead?

    Hi paulyjustin

No you do not need to connect a printer to a computer?

You connect your printer to your network. This makes it a network printer and allows all devices on the network to share the resource. (and the sharing can occur even with PC's being shut off.)

You didn't mention what kind of printer you have. Ideally you connect your printer through a network cable directly to your router. This means your printer has to have a "Lan" port. A lot of less expensive printers today do not have a wired Lan Port to keep costs down.

Pretty much every modern printerscanner connects to your network by wifi. Specific instructions will be in your printer manual.

Once connected to network it becomes a shared resource.

Then you would follow the instructions to add a printer to your chrome book. It should scan network and find device.

When i print from a computer, i would have a computer connected to printer directly to connect it. I never did a wireless setup ever... not familiar with that.

Printer is hp... like d110 printer. I connect my printer to power outlet. I connect a cable from the laptop to the printer to print.

So what you are saying is i been doing it the old school way right?

Again i did not know you could connect via wifi. So you mean if i have 2 different laptops, i could just connect to printer via wifi connection and not wires needed if i connect my chromebook to this printer?

    Correct.

Page 25 of your manual tells you how to connect to network.
