Laptop Display is not turned ON when Waking from Sleep

One more bug in my project to run Win10 on an older HP/CPQ CQ60 model. All working ok now except for a consistent, replicable problem with Display being turned-on when awakening from Sleep mode. The display is just shown in Device Mgr as a PNP Monitor device, which is pretty standard for laptops. HP lists no .inf file for the monitor. When awakening, I can easily get display on an external monitor, but the laptop's own diplay is simply off. No other issues showing.

Is there a Registry entry I can make to "turn on display when awakening" or something? I don't see any relevant power settings that would affect the right behavior. I've replicated the problem a dozen times with no misses, so it is very consistent.

    thanks for a tip!

Go to Search and type in Power Options. Press Enter. On the Left panel click, Choose what the power buttons do.
click the link on top Change Settings that are currently unavailable
Uncheck, Turn on fast startup (recommended) Save Changes.

thank you! I'll give it a try. I was able to get the pattern broken by messing with other power settings. Went from 'consistent' to 'inconsistent'... not sure which is worse. If I go to high-power no-sleep, of course the 'problem' is cured but that's a lousy answer. This morning I set it back to sleeping on battery, and the screen had no issues.. made me wonder if all "sleep" is the same, or if after an interval there is another layer of sleep short of hibernation

well, progress, but not really solvable. I finally got a combination of power setting specifics that seems to consistently work around the issue, which I believe may be caused by the Intel HD graphics driver. What I noticed was that the VGA port on the laptop seems to be 'always on' - anytime I hook to external monitor, it is on; needs no Fn&Key to switch over. The action of the key combo on the laptop for toggling between screens is faulty - works sometimes, sometimes not. But what will work is turning off sleep-on-lid-close, whether battery or AC Adapter. Lid close is "do nothing" - and what's odd is that ONE time only, I had an option under Windows 10 settings to "turn off display" on lid close, but every time I have checked since then, this option is no longer shown either in Windows 10 "Settings' or in Control Panel Power Options settings. The only choices are sleep, do nothing, hibernate. So setting both to "do nothing" results in this: when the system sleeps [timeout or manually invoked], once the lid is opened, if one presses the power button to wake it, the display remains off. If one then closes the lid and reopens the lid, the display is ON. I've repeated this a lot and it seems to be holding for now. I do not know about "deep sleep" yet because I find no info on 1903 as to how deep sleep works.

Turning off Fast Start did not seem to make any difference at all. I have not worked with hibernation enough times yet to see what the pattern is.
