    Turning Off Hard Disk

If I set my power options to:
    Turn off Hard Disk
    (after x amount of minutes)

    Turn off Moniter
    (also after so many minutes)

What is the difference between that and setting the pc to sleep mode?

I ask because a number of times, coming out of sleep ... it doesn't!

The HD will click and then nothing!
Takes a hard shutdown and reboot to get running again!

Believe me, I've done every work-a-round, (for the last six months) and tried every suggestion in trying to fix this headache and nothing has worked!

Searching, this appears to be a problem with Windows 10 that a lot of folks have been having.
Some have solved the problem while others have not.

Seems that no one solution is a fix for everyone.

I've disabled hybrid and hibernate using only sleep.
Re-enabled hibernate with sleep disabled ... but the problem still exists!

And yes, I've run every chk disk and troubleshooter that I can find and ... nothing!

I figure that allowing the disk to go into idle and having the monitor shut down is the only step that I have left?

My concern is .. I don't want to shut down the pc every time I have something else that I need to do but ... I also don't want to risk something like a cooling fan going bad and my hard disk burning up when I'm not around!

    Thanks in advance everyone!!

This is a snapshot of my system ...

Start Windows in Clean Boot State and see if the problem disappears. If so then some program or process is interfering with resumption of Sleep. Then you will have to try to identify the process that is causing the problem.
For your Keyboard and Mouse, ensure that the Allow this device to wake the computer setting is checked.

I've not been able to convince myself that Sleep, Hibernation and the Power options don't interfere with each other so I usually have Sleep and Hibernation disabled.

Only thing that turns off on my computer when I am not using it is the monitor. It wakes up as soon as I move the mouse. This is what I have done with every computer I have ever owned. Never caused a single problem.

So you don't worry about a cooling fan ever going out and your HD burning up?

The other part of my question was ... Is allowing the HD to turn of (It's an options setting) and allowing the monitor to turn off any different than using the sleep mode setting?
    Thanks

Only time I had a fan break was when we had a major storm and terrible power surge...killed computer fan and tv and both were turned off at the time. No, I am not concerned about the fan going out and HD burning up.

Sleep mode still has current going to the PC and shutting down hard drive stops all power to the hd. You can change from turn off hard disks in 20 minutes default setting to turn off after like 2 or 3 hours. That way if you need to use the computer during that time it will still be running and won't have to reboot.
