Dell XPS 15 Laptop Battery Replacement

Dell does not sell it. Contacted them many times and they haven't had it in years and read online others say the same unless you had warranty.

I checked online and there is a site called laptopbatteryexpress that seem to have excellent reviews. You can buy a battery for the xps 15 9550 for like 120 or 130 dollars depending on if you want the 84wh or the 97wh.

I did check old reviews from other sites a long time ago and someone mentioned in a mac forum that said uses garbage batteries like on ebay but charge retail prices. But when i check google and reviews, i see a ton of excellent reviews. Does anyone have opinion on this site? So from reading the site, these batteries are not geniune from dell but they are made by them... correct? But reviews seem to be superb. Has anyone bought any batteries from them and can give opinion? Price is pretty average i say... but how does it work?

I found 2 sites that seem to sell xps 15 9550 batteries. The first one is authentic as i believe lot of people mentioned this site earlier. It cost 150 dollars but it is genuine. They seem to have the 56wh and 84wh but the 56wh is not available now.

New Dell OEM Original XPS 15 9550 Precision Battery 4GVGH

Does anyone know about laptopbatteryexpress? These don't seem to be authentic and seem to show made in samsung and shipped here. So are these very good but not premium? But they are selling at pretty close to retail prices so this is pretty good as well?

Battery for Dell Precision 15-5510xt extended run battery

Battery for Dell Precision 15-5510xt extended run battery (84 Whr)

Now the big question i have is this. Does the xps 15 9550 allow a 97wh battery or not? Parts-people does not have a 97wh and doesn't ever have it. But laptopbatteryexpress has the 56wh, 84wh and even 97wh.

Can anyone here confirm the 97wh works for the xps 15 9550? Because i certainly wouldn't mind getting the 97wh over the 84wh if it cost a bit more.

I checked ebay and these are 2 sellers that have very good feedback overall. Lot of other sellers are selling this battery for like under 60 dollars and 50 and have not that great feedback so i avoid them.

    NEW ORIGINAL Battery-Dell PRE-M5530-M5520 XPS15 9570 -9560 97wh 5XJ28 6GTPY | eBay

But thoughts on this? I'm a little surprised the 2nd seller is selling the 84wg battery for only 65 dollars. That seems really low but not super low. He has tons of customers. But none of these sellers on ebay are selling original authentic batteries right?

Thus not even the laptopbattery site i posted earlier since they say they get it from korea where samsung makes it. So theres only 1 place that has authentic dell batteries and it's parts-people?

Is it risky using these 3rd party batteries? This laptop has lot of ppl complaining about battery swelling. I never had this issue though with my original battery or a replacement one i bought from ebay 1.5 years ago but the person i bought it from, they had perfect feedback and charged a lot more for it... so i know its most likely legit.

Dell xps 15 9550 specifications are designed for 56 WHr or 84 WHr.

I’ve seen too many times in which a replacement battery does last only about 2 ˝ years.
    Consider what a warranty costs.

EDIT: If you still want to consider a 97wh battery since they are out there, you'll want to determine the limits of your power supply meaning it might make sense to install an appropriate power supply. Unfortunately I don't recall how to do that.

I have checked amazon and ebay and newegg. The thing is all the sellers on all these sites are 3rd party sellers. Also im pretty certain all sellers are not selling genuine batteries correct?

The links i posted seem to be the only good ones i found online that isn't amazon/ebay/newegg.

Has anyone had experience with parts people or laptopbatteryexpress here? These are the only 2 sites that look legit. Parts people tell me they use genuine dell OEM products. The laptopbatteryexpress are not geniune but they say these batteries are made by samsung in korea... said they are not geniune but still very good.

Well most replacement batteries you find on amazon or ebay but especially ebay are very bad quality and fake.

I mean, i don't mind a good 3rd party battery from an ebay seller but wouldn't there be risk of it damaging your laptop?

Okay so you find out 9550 has battery for 56wh or 84wh. So that mean anyone that is 97wh is not good then? I did read people on forum say they used a 97whr battery... i believe one for the 9560 and it worked for the 9550. I mean 97whr gives about 15 percent more battery than 84wh so that is still pretty significant.

Well the 1st and 2nd sellers i posted seem to have 1 year warranties. The ebay sellers i think you only get 1 month probably...

I edited my prior post not realizing you were doing your updated post. Please review it since I brought up the 97WHr battery since they are out there. At the present time though I would keep in mind about the power supply (Ask the vendor about that). I'll see if I can find the designed power supply for your laptop.

As you noted there are people who report it worked for them but are they doing so with specific information? The only way you'll know is to go for it.

When those vendors mention genuine Dell OEM products and other descriptions, pay attention to them as you are doing. As I was scouring Newegg they also get their replacement batteries from other vendors such as Amazon, eBay etc.
Also when you are ready to do so, ask the vendor directly what is the expected life-cycle of their product under normal conditions. The reason I mentioned the warranty is because when it comes to replacement batteries I believe it's worth looking to them and compare the price of replacing a battery when it's necessary to do so.

--- Voltage 11.4. Ensure your power adapter can handle that
--- Warranty 3 months. Find out if there is an extended warranty.
That’s what I would try or something similar along those lines.

At least with Amazon you have a solid return policy.

Meandmycomputer, the link you posted to me from that seller on newegg... i would avoid it for one reason.. the price of 62 dollars seems very low and i think its not good quality.

Also on amazon, there are lot of reviews where some ppl say many batteries sold there are not good quality.

But all these batteries that are sold on amazon or ebay or newegg, none are dell genuine right? I remember reading that somewhere. Thus even that laptopexpress site i posted does not use genunine, they say it cames from korea and samsung makes these batteries, so its like those are good batteries but not like cheap ebay ones but not genuine. So i want to know has anyone here used either people parts... which seems to be legit dell parts... but they are retail price - its about 150 for the battery... versus something like laptopbatteryexpress which is like under 125 dollars but those are not geniune.

I wish I had better recall but several years ago in such a situation it was necessary for a client to get a battery for his Laptop [before the smaller Notebooks] and we sent it to a repair firm that specialized in replacing the cells in the battery case. Maybe a Search of the Internet could find one?

Have you checked THIS site? This is one site we often refer users to for parts that Dell no longer sells, on the Dell forums.

Years ago, this model 9550 and i believe 9560 had battery swelling and lot of customers were able to get a new replacement battery for free. But i believe you had to send in your machine in order to do this. But that has expired a while back already.

So basically anyone that has this laptop 9550 or 9560, you can't get new batteries anymore. I believe reason dell can't sell is because they ran out because of the replacement battery and warranties they had to give.

But still. Shouldn't laptops that are not way too old should still have batteries being sold? The xps 15 9550 is only few years ago. Same with the 9560. I mean thats like saying hey i got an iphone 6... but after a few years, apple won't sell an authentic battery anymore? I mean the 9550 is one of the top models that came out a while back, how can they not manufacture batteries. Do they want everyone to buy a new laptop every 2 years etc?
