I have 2 desktop PCs. On both of them, I cloned smaller SSDs onto larger M.2 ones. Actually, I imaged the drives using Acronis True Image (commercial) and restored the images to the new drives. I let the restore be done with the same partition sizes, and then expanded the main partition using (Windows) Disk Management to include the unallocated space.

I'm not sure why you ask, but the OS on both machines was Pro, before and after.

Speaking of Pro. I hope that the license the that repair shop used on your machine was legit. It may have been, but I wouldn't expect a free upgrade from Home, normally.

I could have done a straight clone, but I wanted images of the old drives anyway, as backups. (I try to never do major changes without having an image of the OS.)

I don't use bitlocker. I might on a laptop, but my laptop is a cheapie with Win10 Home.

Thanks for the response on this bob.

"The 84wh one for 75 dollars. His feedback is 100%. I did ask him last time if these are legit dell geniune batteries and he tells me yes. But i read online that any battery you buy off ebay from someone is not geniune.. not possible... so you know if that is true or not? But this guy has 100% feedback and all he sells are laptop batteries if you check his items for sale."

If that's your decision Note there is a Free 30 day returns.
--- If there is an issue on the battery you receive, contact the vendor immediately.
--- If the decision is to return it, don't wait, return it immediately.
If the vendor recommends sending a battery to replace the one you receive and you agree to that, make sure the Free 30 day return applies to that battery also.

"But i read online that any battery you buy off ebay from someone is not genuine"
--- I don't have an exact response to that but this is how I look at laptop battery's.
When you buy a laptop from Dell or any other manufacturer, their components are designed to meet exact specs for your laptop and that's what's make them genuinely Dell or whatever manufacture is applicable to. Enough said.
Hey. Well my issue is this. I am planning to travel to the US for a short while only and after i get my computer parts put in.. I will be outside the US again. So i can't really do the 30 day thing etc.

But this guy feedback is 100%... and well ppl say ebay sellers don't sell genunine... so thats why im confused. Like do you think that other sell computer parts with 99.8% feedback got the same battery as the 100% feedback? But what about the laptopbatteryexpress? They say they get it from south korea... so safe to say ebay sellers probably don't get it from ther right?

    --- Understood.

I’m under the impression this is the laptop battery you are interested in.
--- If you decide on a different battery, the same principle applies.

… 4GVGH is for the 84Wh and it’s a 4-cell unit but I’d also recommend the correct AC adapter at the same time.
In post #23 you mention “My laptop 56whr battery is RRCGW”, that matches this eBay item also.

New Dell OEM Original XPS 15 9550 Precision Battery 4GVGH
Note it applies for both your Dell XPS 15 9550 laptop as well as a Precision 15 (5510)
    --- In their case, it’s a 6-cell battery instead of 4-cell from eBay .
--- Notice some of the details: Genuine OEM Parts Only, 1 Year Warranty Included.
--- What’s wrong with that: isn’t that what you’ve been asking about: Genuine OEM Parts only is Dell: in addition, a 1 Year Warranty is Included.
--- Another plus is you can scroll down to Verify Compatibility: Confirm this part is compatible with your Dell before you buy.
--- Make sure to determine that the 6-cell battery does match up for your particular XPS 15 (9550)
Maybe you can tell, I prefer to know the original manufacturer’s information for a laptop first and in your case, it’s Dell.

Hi thanks for response. The one you made as a link is the bigger battery i like... but that seller also sells the 97wh as well. If i get the bigger battery, i want the 97h as oppose to the bit smaller one.

Yea the description says its genuine dell. But i read on forums that no ebay seller could sell genuine parts and only place to get real geunine parts is that dell parts people store. So that means those are legit geunine dell ebay sellers then right with the batteries? Again his feedback is perfect. The other seller with similar feedback did have a few negative though.

Hey all. So this week I will be order a laptop battery for my xps 15 9550. I had procrastinated with this since last year and since my battery is now over 92% worn out, I will have to get a new one. Again, my battery is the smaller 56wh one and I want to get the bigger 97wh or the 84wh one... but i know i will need to remove the 2.5 inch ssd in order to put new battery, which isn't an issue since I will get a 1tb m.2 ssd since my ssd is running out of space.

I looked through the thread again and someone mentioned in the dell xps manual that the xps 9550 is only meant for 56wh and 84wh. But i read in forums that the 97wh does work if you put it in the 9550 though. I read few examples of people saying it does work.

    84wh - 4GVGH

Battery for Dell Precision 15-5510xt extended run battery (84 Whr)

    97wh - 6GTPY

6GTPY Battery for Dell Precision 15-5510

Okay I like your opinion on this. I asked laptopbatteryexpress if the 97wh is compatible with the 9550. They told me it wasn't. I then said i looked at the reviews of the 97wh and one customer a while back said it worked with the 9550. They said it isn't compatible.

I mentioned to the laptopbatteryexpress rep, I read online the 97wh model 6GTPY works with the 9550 because I read on forum other users said it does but also... on ebay... one popular seller sell the exact model for the 9550 and even the seller of that battery on ebay tells me its compatible with the 9550 since i see lot of people bought from that seller.

This is what he tells me

The xps 15 9550 uses many different batteries and are not interchangeable. The battery used varies based on when it was ordered and what configuration it shipped and NOT THE MODEL NUMBER ALONE. You can't go based on what other people used in theirs, you need to go based on what your laptop has in it which is a 4GVGH 84h battery.

Now can others confirm this statement? I never heard of that before but that sounds very interesting. So the model number is not what you are suppose to look at but what configuration the battery was shipped in? I have never heard of that ever.

    Thanks.

    In POST #3, I mentioned
Dell xps 15 9550 specifications are designed for 56 WHr or 84 WHr.
    https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/a...uide_en-us.pdf

97wh battery has been mentioned that it does work on the sites you have mentioned.
--- If you go there, you need to consider if you have the proper power adapters for either the 84WHr and 97wh battery's as well as determine if the one you want fits in your laptop or make it fit.

    We can't see your laptop,
--- Unless I missed it, what size battery do you presently have or have used? 56, 84 or 97 WHr?
We are trying to present information that is helpful for you.
Compare what the Dell website offers especially the warranty to what you are reading.
Make a decision & go for it.
--- I've had people show me what they are reading vs. what the manufacturer offers.
--- The intent is so you will know what the proper considerations to take in.

Naturally there are times when it's possible to go beyond the manufacturers recommendations, but you or we do not know the system configurations of those who report they have been able to do that.

I know you want to make the right decision but I suspect your system has a typical configuration.

    A Dell page:
    https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/X...y/td-p/6232713
I have replaced the internal-type batteries on some Windows Notebooks and a couple of MacBooks. The compartment they fit in can take only certain sizes so it's important to get the right one, the 84Mwh is most likely the largest it will accept. A sign the battery needs replacement is usually when the case starts to change shape due to the battery bulging. It usually doesn't break the case but the possibility exists that it could.

Also, go to www.support.dell.com and plug in the Service Tag and/or Express Service Code, usually a sticker on the bottom of the Notebook or maybe in the battery compartment. The ST frequently is in the BIOS. The ESC lists what was shipped, what you bought and may give the battery info.

We're about 2 weeks away from the one year anniversary of this thread. And the battery is now 92% dead, but still tickin'!

Justy, order the battery that fits your needs and be done!

    Pauly:

A week ago, in your other thread, you said you were within minutes of taking the laptop to your repair shop to be overhauled.....new battery, new SSD, cloning the existing SSD, etc----after deciding that was a better idea than spending 1700 on a new laptop.

What happened to that good idea?

You've been worrying over all of this for a year with nothing happening.

    Other than dithering.

sonic... im not in the US at the moment. Im going to go there soon. I cannot get the new ssd, battery, clone the ssd here. That has to be done in the US.

And it looks like im going to just order the 84wh battery since im not sure if the 97wh would work... again i would order it but their customer support at laptopbatteryexpress said it won't work which I think they are incorrect.
