Dell XPS 15 Laptop Battery Replacement

The site I linked has a new Dell OEM battery for the 9550. Its pricey, $149.95 HERE

I have no direct knowledge of the site other than that is one site many of the techies ("Rockstars") on the Dell forum send people to for parts that are not available from Dell. I haven't seen any negative feedback (if there has been any) so I have to assume its an OK site.

This is a brand new Dell Precision 15-5510 extended run laptop battery. This battery fits the same machines as the Dell p5510 battery, however, the battery is twice as wide. This is an internal battery. If you have 2 hard drives in your laptop, you may not have room for this larger capacity battery.

I’m not recommending either one at this point but to mention what to look for on any battery you will be considering including also bro67’s in post #2.

At the same time see if it’s worth including the power adapter for the unit you select.

As far as Dell genuine, I believe Dell as well as other manufacturers get there batteries from the same sources overseas.

In your laptop's battery compartment, double check their voltage and replaceable p'n's also.

But for the 2nd link that is what im not sure of. Because even though they sell the 97whr, from the manual someone mentioned, 9550 only works with 56wh and the 84wh. But some ppl on forums said they put a 97wh battery that i believe is a 9560 battery into the 9550 and it works. So because of that, thats why im curious because having a 97wh over 84wh battery is obviously a bit better.

I bought an OEM Dell XPS 12 (9Q33) battery for $65 from a seller on ebay called VipGlobal. It has run fine for about 18 months now.

Hi there. Sorry for not responding back. I did not buy the battery replacement as I went outside the US during this time. I will be most likely going back to the US soon for a bit so i will need to get a battery replacement. Now the battery is extremely worst compared to months ago when i posrted this.


I currently have the 56 whr battery. I got this battery replaced one time about 2 years ago i believe when i bought it off ebay and then went to repair shop and had the guy open my laptop and replace the battery.


Im just not 100% sure if i want to get the bigger battery 84whr or 97whr compared to the 56whr because my currently laptop is a bit low on space.. its 256gb but only has 40gb remaining. Its the 2.5 inch regular ssd. And im considering getting a 512gb or 1tb m.2 ssd. So if i get m.2 ssd, that would mean i can get the bigger battery which i want. But the issue is i have to start brand new on my laptop which i do not like etc. So i regretted getting this laptop not knowing that it came with a 56wh battery because i thought all xps 15 9550 came with this battery.

It sounds like you replaced the original battery about 2 years ago and that’s the battery you want to replace now.

Yes I am. I had this laptop for about 3.5 years or so.


This laptop still works good.


The original battery lasted 1.5 years or so before it completely worn off. The replacement i got was off ebay about 2 years ago and now wearing off. The thing is i have it connected to an outlet like almost 100% of the time. The battery use to get 1.5 to 2 hours doing what i do... now its like 1 hour or less now. At the highest, i say 2.5 to 3 hours was the battery but that was when doing not much.


Yes i saw the site parts people. That seem to be only legit site that sell genuine dell right?


Do you or anyone have opinion on this site? They also sell the 56wh, 84wh or 97wh battery. But these seem to be from samsung and from south korea. So these aren't dell geniune i believe right? But the price is very close to parts people. And the thing is i prefer 97wh battery... want the biggest one compared to the 84whr one.

Well if i get the bigger battery... 84wh or 97wh... i have to get an m.2 ssd because at the moment i have 2 ssds in my laptop. My 2.5 inch samsung 250gb ssd which has 40gb left... and a 32gb m.2 ssd that came along with the system. Basically i would have to remove both of these ssd... then put in a 512gb or 1tb ssd... then put in the bigger battery. That is what i would like to do. I can't just buy the bigger battery and then put it in my laptop because the 2.5 inch ssd needs to be removed because the xps either has 1 or 2 hard drives inside... if it has the 2.5 inch ssd... you can't put bigger battery in. Does that make sense? I had no idea about this until much later on when i found out... xps 15 9550 has 2 different battery types depending on how many hard drives your laptop has inside.


Well i know i would need a m.2 ssd if i want to get a bigger battery. I could of course right now just get another 56wh smaller battery but issue is you never get much battery out of it... and also i would need my 2.5 inch 250gb ssd replaced eventually. However the last 5 months or so... i only used up like 7gb total when i had 47gb free back then. Now 40gb free. So i just dont download anything into it etc.


And the most annoying thing of all is if i get new bigger battery and m.2 ssd whether 512gb or 1tb... im going to have to start fresh... which im not a fan of. Like i want everything on my laptop now as is but i read you have to clone your ssd etc and it doesn't always come out smooth. And ppl say when new ssd, always start new and dont clone.

Both of my desktop machines have new M.2 SSDs.

Both were cloned from smaller SSDs. Both run well.

Your mileage, as always, may vary.
