Windows 10 Unable to Detect Fingerprint Reader

    Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my HP Probook 4430s from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. I read that Windows 10 is able to detect fingerprint scanners and special cameras for a more secure way of logging into Windows via Windows Hello. However, I can not find the option for Windows Hello anywhere. I have set up a PIN for the laptop, but I still do not see it. Additionally, I have checked device manager to see if the reader is recognized in Windows and it does show the biometric device as being installed properly. I am hoping anyone can shed some light on the issue. It would be greatly appreciated.

WIndows Hello will likely be released in a few months. My wild guess with nothing to back it up would be sometime around October early November.

However Windows 10 now has better driver support for fingerprint readers and it will facilitate the upgrade process for many users with proprietary drivers from their manufacturer HP, Lenovo, Dell. When "Windows Hello" decides to roll out I think I will love it as well. Can't wait for facial recognition, Iris recognition, fingerprint, Cortana voice commands. Very soon I will feel like batman!

Thanks for the response. It seemed like Windows Hello would have been available immediately at launch based on the articles I have read about it. It's a little disappointing that it is still a ways out as I use the fingerprint reader quite often. I am enjoying everything else about Windows 10, but I may restore my Windows 7 backup in the meantime.

You should be able to use the fingerprint login without the Hello feature using HP software. Yes you can rollback to windows 7
Launch the settings application > Update and security > recovery
Sorry to see you guy this early
