Where to buy Seagate usb cable from?
Where to buy replacement Seagate USB 2.0 cable for external hard drive? my original cable is oxidised, damaged, lost, is USB 3.0 cable backwards compatible with USB 2.0 external hard drive port?

Readily available online or local tech stores. Here's just one example. Search around on the Web for places near you or order on-line.

You can buy them from lots of places such as Amazon and StarTech
The important thing is to identify the connections at both ends. If you are not sure about this then post a photo of the connection on the HDD & your defective cable. It might well be a "MiniUSB" connection which looks like a fat version of the connections that are on / used to be on mobile phones [which are/were "MicroUSB" connections].
Added later - the photos on this Amazon [UK] page show what I meant by "a fat version" - https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-co.../dp/B006ZZ1C4M
This is what I bought to replace the cable for one of my external HDDs.
The computer end of the connection should not be a problem. You can connect both USB3 & USB2 cables into both USB3 & USB2 connectors on the computer. But post photos of that end as well if you are not sure.

The USB 3 cable that comes with External drives will not fit in a USB 2 drive. The computer end is interchangeable but not the drive end which are different shapes. And other USB 3 devices have a differently shaped plug. All 3 cable types are available on the 'net, don't necessarily need to come from the drive manufacturer, Cables to Go is a good starting point, also CyberGuys. Most USB 2 plugs and sockets have a black center piece while most USB 3 plugs and sockets have a blue center piece. Have seen motherboards with orange USB ports.
USB Cables for every USB connector application possible! All at Cyberguys great prices.
I have an external 8TB Seagate drive. It's probably newer than the OP's. The cable end at the drive isn't one of the standard USB types: not A,B, C, mini, or micro. I presume that it's proprietary.
I wish they wouldn't do that.
Can you post a photo? I have several external Seagate drives so I might recognise it.
Is it like this -

However, If you reside in Tokyo, it should be very easy in the Akihabara area, but bring the cable.
Looks like it.
I'm not in the market for a cable, yet. The drive is fairly new.
My point was only that external HD USB cables may not be standard USB cables. (I didn't know that there may be an industry standard that isn't one of the common USB types. Thanks for that.)
If the OP was serious about sourcing a replacement cable, supplying a model number for the Seagate drive could be helpful. (If it's a USB 2.0 drive, it may be fairly old. "Fairly old" could be 3 years.)
Yes, it is the standard Micro USB B connector for USB3, a USB2 Micro B connector will also work with such drives (but only at usb2 speeds).
